I'm assuming if your paint is already older, it would be best to fully restore the paint before adding this? That is one cool demonstration!

I would also be curious as to the condition of the paint under the xpel film where that wire brush was applied.

I have this XPel film on my car and you can hardly tell it is on the car. Auto Paint Guard in Tampa did my install and it was there 1st install of this film and it came out looking great.

Since I track my car a lot I'm hoping that this film will stay looking like new for a longer time than other films.

I can forsee 1 mistake the installer and I did was not put this new XPel film on the front bumper because we did not know much about it and they installed the thicker old 3M film that is known for it's durability but has more orange peel to it. However my full front hood and mirrors and fender have this new XPel film.

I have the exact same setup as your link shows on my black turbo. The paint on the front fender compared to the uncoated door look exactly the same. Must be the photos and/or the lighting.

It certainly won't hurt, though you will find that installing film over light swirls and scratches will completely hide them (as you can tell in the video). The panel we installed the film on in this video is one of our training hoods where we teach new installers to apply the film. It is not well taken care of, since it is just for practice. If you notice later in the video, the camera pans off onto the unprotected paint and you can see the condition it was in.

Paint chips, on the other hand, need to be touched up and smoothed for the best results.

When film is first applied, there is still moisture beneath the surface that must dry before it looks its best. I'm sure that is what you are seeing.
