Leather Console

I recently removed my console and had it and my shifter frame covered in leather to match the full leather interior on my 06 C2S cab. The plastic console had become marked up a little, as well as the front of the shifter frame right by the little storage pocket at the bottom of the PCM center stack. The ashtray lid had to be shaved to allow for thickness of the leather. They also covered the filler piece that fits in the emergency brake slot. I sent the switch for the cab top control so he could ensure the leather didn't interfere with it.

The leather match isn't perfect, as the texture is more pronounced and the color is slightly lighter (stone gray), but I think it looks so much better than the plastic console. I considered having it painted, but thought with the full leather interior the leather console would look even better.

I had it done by Classic 9 Leather Shop in Michigan.

I'm very pleased with the new look. Here are some photos.

My total cost was around $700 plus shipping each way. The only other choice was to have it painted, which wasn't much cheaper and wouldn't have included the storage compartment lid.

That looks really nice! Love the stitched-look.

I've been thinking about doing the same thing using the same shop. How long did it take to cover the console.

I think the main reason I haven't done it yet is that I'm a little intimidated by the removal.

Thanks!
Bob

i'm glad you like it but it would drive me nuts if it didn't match perfectly I would have spent a bit more and gotten the factory piece.

I'm not that **** about a 5 year old car anymore. Besides, I think you'll find that a "bit more" is a lot more for a factory piece. Here is a quote from a post by a member of the "other" forum:

$700 is a great price.

Current prices on Porsche bits from Suncoast, that has some of the lowest prices you can find from Porsche dealers.

Leather rear center consile $2,895
Shift Console Trim $409
Bin cover $279 (with Porsche crest)
Total Price $3,673

Very nice. Just be careful of the seatbelt receptacles. They have a tendancy to rub the center console and may damage the leather. (even with the factory felt that is on them)

color match looks pretty good in the pics, but those striations in the leather where the console forms a 'bowl' to accommodate the e-brake handle...is the leather loose in that area?

No, there is no loose leather. I presume the striations are a result of forming the leather to the compound curves. That area is the only part that isn't perfect (striations and slightly uneven stitching). But in the grand scheme of things, the overall look is so much better that I'm not concerned about the minor imperfections.
