991 Tail Lights on 997 w/aftermarket bumper
no difference IMO
I think there is a problem with mods that change the "standard" features of one model line to look like the "standard" features of another line, particularly on the exterior look. Wouldn't do it.
I really don't see how this is any different the the majority of the threads on 6Speed about bumper, light, rim, trim, interior, wing, duck tail, whale tail, etc etc etc mods.
There is obviously a lot of interest (and execution) to make a 997.1 look like a 997.2, or a non-S look like an S, the addition of Turbo parts added to a non-Turbo, or RS parts, or GTS parts, or GT3 parts, or Sport Classic parts, and on and on. Why would the 991 be any different here?
Not my cup of tea but if you want 991 lights on your 997 I say go for it. In a few short months you'll probably have a dozen requests asking how to do the same.
(Full disclosure - I'm not a modder at all so take my opinion as biased. Do I like the 997.2 better...maybe but not enough to shell out another $10-15K. Would I like to have a GTx - sure I would. Would a turbo be cool - sure. I bought a 997.1 b/c of the condition/price/options and am completely comfortable with the fact that is what I drive. I looked for about 2 months in Florida for my car where there seem to be about as many 911s for sale as Camrys (kidding but there are a huge # of 911s for sale in FL - great place to buy a car). Avoided every one that had been modded. Too many unknowns. The parts could be cheap knock-offs, could actually hurt performance, quality of the install unknown, warranty issues, availability of replacement parts for the mod, the list goes on an one.)

I don't own a Porsche yet but I want to chime in.
My first Lexus was a 95 SC300. The SC was basically the same from 92-2000. There were changes over the years to the front/rear bumper, side skirts and tail lights. Everything else stayed the same.
Many of us changed the tails to the newest version. Even more people changed the front and rear bumpers making it appear they had the newest model. The interior stayed the same.
It felt ok at the time and still does today. Since there were no huge power or engine changes, it wasn't like anyone was pretending to have the more powerful car. The SC300 power never changed. The SC400 went from 250 to 300hp but that's not a huge deal. You want more power you turbo it....and that happened to many despite its model year.
Now to the Porsche 911. I am completely not in favor of intra model changes. It's a new or different car. Plus, each model was great in its own way. Each special. To me, the air cooled 993 was like an exotic. It felt that special. The first water cooled 911 was historic. I could go on but I think you all get the point.
I wouldn't kick an intra-model 911 out of bed but I wouldn't marry her either.

I'll weigh in with my opinion. Everybody has an opinion, right?
I think there's a fine line, but a big difference between
- trying to make your car look like a different car (newer, more power version, etc)
- trying to make your car look cool, unique, and modded to your own taste
I'm going for the second option with my 997, as I did with my 964 that I owned and modded from 1999 - 2010.
I like the aerokit front bumper, and I think it looks cooler with the vent. I don't like any (?) of the Porsche stock wheels, so I went with aftermarket. I love the GT3 rear bumper vents, ever since it came out. I didn't like the center exhaust at first, but then it grew on me. I really like the OEM 997.2 style LED lights. I like the car lower than stock.
I don't like the GT3/ aerokit rear wing. I'm going wingless now, but at some point, I think it'd be pretty cool to have the turbo spoiler.
Am I trying to make my car look like a GT3? Absolutely not. I'm not badging it that way and I'm not out to fool anyone.
We all know that most people don't know the difference between 911s anyway.
To each his (or her own)
I guess my Main point here is that one should not assume that people who buy LED lights are trying to fool people into thinking they have a newer car, or people that that put an aerokit (or GT3) bumper (front or rear) are trying to fool people into thinking they have a GT3.
I'm sure some people are aiming for that, but in my experience, it's a vast minority of the modding community

I think you should do what ever you want. I have a convertible 997.1 and drive it every day. I plan to use original parts only, but, at the end of the day it is just something you enjoy and if you enjoy it more looking like a 991 (or a buick) you should go for it. I am not sure anyone will want to buy it later, but its your car and your choice.
well done... This is going to another story.
I love 6speed drama and addict to it real bad.
Anyway I love 991 tail. If I have that much money to spend , I'll do it.
PorscheDesigner can you tell me about your quote ? You spoke with them over the phone and what happen ? Do they actually asking for 8k for the kit ?
