991 Tail Lights on 997 w/aftermarket bumper
With 'projects' like this, it appears that this community is fast approaching the tacky, free-for-all nonsense, of the Vette and ricer car communities.
I, for one, think that there's value and character in maintaining the factory original design. Change it and you just created a fake.

This is an interesting thread. I actually stumbled across it as I Googled how to install 991 Tail Lights since I just ordered Clear Taillights.
It's not just vettes/ricer communities. This is fairly common in BMW communities--especially with 3 series owners trying to make their cars look like M3s.
For my 2007 335i, I refreshed both the exterior and interior to match that of a 2011. It was fairly easy to do: OEM fitment with 0 modifications. The link to that car is in my sig. I curious how some of you feel about it.
Now, as far as custom fabricating/molding bumpers...perhaps that is where people have issues?
As long as it's OEM (which I know is not the case here) I don't see any problem with refreshing the look of your vehicle.
In the e90post community, if you have modified enough of the performance so the speed can match any aggressive performance mods...like M3 fenders or complete M3 conversion sans the badges, people are ok with it.

I think original op just wanted to know if he can put a 991 style led on his 997.1 I think that would look great in my opinion. I would give the car a new style look. Every is already using the 997.2 led’s so why not something newer.
