991 Tail Lights on 997 w/aftermarket bumper

Surely I'm not the only one who thought of it. Do you guys think someone will eventually make a bumper for the 997 that fits the new 991 LED tails?

That along with a replicated front bumper, would be a nice way to spruce up a 997.

Thoughts?

Umm..why?

Sorry but I don't get it. Why would you want to do such a thing? A 997 is not a 991. Why would you want to create a strangle looking mix-up? I think the 997 looks great as a 997. The 991 also looks great. But mixing the two?

This might be slightly off topic, but if you're looking to spruce up your 997, and you have a 997.1, you might want to try a 997.2 rear bumper and LED conversion. I just priced the parts, shipping, paint and labor for this and it's about $3300. If you want the 997.2 4/4S rear decklid (w/ reflector) included, you're looking at about $4500....like a said, slightly off topic

I agree with the other forum member, keep the 997 a 997. Just me $.02.

Hmm................. Let's see. Sport Classic has the duck tail and Fuchs wheels and the Speedster has the hump, but both of them still have the same tail lights and general rear bumper shape (albeit different exhaust tips) on them. So what's your point?

I can't get it either. The lines of the rear end is completely different so I don't see how you could tastefully integrate the 991 tail lights in a 997. It would be a futile exercise and the end-product with be a Frankenstein of a disaster.

With 'projects' like this, it appears that this community is fast approaching the tacky, free-for-all nonsense, of the Vette and ricer car communities.

I, for one, think that there's value and character in maintaining the factory original design. Change it and you just created a fake.

Me too.

In 25 years who would want a 997 with a 991 bumper and tail lights....

Hey, maybe we could put the 996 headlights on it and the 993 interior in it then get some Fuchs for it?

I've been thinking about this for about one year. Ever since I considered led tails, .2 bumper, maybe center exhaust, etc. Several people on the board have done those things, mostly to positive reviews.
Even before the 991 pics debuted, I started thinking about a 991 conversion, as a matter of considering options, ie brainstorming possible upgrades, vs deciding that it was something that I would want to do. I considered posting here, but never bothered.
Since then, I've added dectane tails, and I'm satisfied for now. Also, 991 photos, etc are readily available.
My current thinking is that 997 -> 991 conversion/upgrade would be like making a 996 to look like a 997, and that doesn't make any sense. The interior is way different, and it's a different car. A 997.1 to .2 conversion (ex led tails) is a whole different animal, IMHO.
So, at this point, I don't think it would be a good idea, but that's just my opinion.

I agree with you.

I see many, many people on the 996 boards trying to make the 996 look like a 997. I just don't get it. If you want a 997, then sell your 996 and buy a 997! I think the same is true for the 991. It looks great, but don't bastardize a 997. Sell it and buy a 991 if that's the look you want!

Where did you price this? I was literally just thinking about this after seeing a 997.2 GT3 on the road the other day. It looked amazing!
