Paint matching // Aerokit
Paint matching // Aerokit
Hi all. I have a beautiful 2007 SY C4S with factory aerokit. I noticed that the color of my bumpers is not the same as the hood/panels. Is this normal ? Is it due to painting plastic bumpers vs metal ?
When I got Porsche to do a PPI, they didn't note anything.
It didn't bother me much in bright light but now being overcast mostly during the day, I really notice it !

The factory aero kit may have been added by a previous owner. I am almost 100% certain that these do not come painted from the factory when you buy them. They do come painted if it was an original option -- do you have the window sticker?
Yeah...If you don't happen to have the original sticker search which options the car came with via the VIN. If the aerokit was put on after new car purchase it probably was just not matched well. If it came with the car, then it must have been repainted.
It's actually on the window sticker. Is it possible that the front and rear bumper are not the originals ? I just emailed the dealer who did the PPI and they mentioned that the technician didn't think it was an oem spoiler for some reason. But wasn't 100% sure. I am not sure if there is supposed to be a visible part number anywhere without disassembling it.
Not sure why the dealer would say that. IIRC there is a sticker on the underside of the trunklid that shows the routing of the serpentine belt. There should also be a mobile1 sticker stuck to the inside as well. If those are there then that is a good indication it is factory. If that is the case then the bumpers are most likely factory and may have been re-sprayed.
Dealerships will usually re-spray the front bumper due to rock chips, but I would imagine the rear would not have been re-sprayed unless there was damage to it.

One more thing you might want to check. Do you know if the car had protective film applied to it? This could alter the look of the paint. I could see it being done on the front bumper, but would imagine the hood would have the film as well. I wouldn't think the rear bumper would have it unless the whole car was wrapped.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.
No 3m film. The underside of the spoiler had the Mobil 1 and another Porsche label, but not the serpentine belt diagram.

I may be mistaken on the belt diagram, but will check.
My car has an aerokit factory fitted on my 07 guards red 997, however prior to my purchasing the car it has had a gt3 front bumper fitted or the gt3 vent added to the oem bumper (I do not know which). One thing I can tell you though is that the plastic is a different shade to the front bonnet. Dealer said it was because it's plastic.
It is not unusual for a plastic bumper to be slightly off the color of the metal parts. The way the plastic takes the color is just not the same. Every car I ever had if you studied you would see the bumpers are slightly off in shade ...
