Trade 997.2 C2S for 991 C2S?
Trade 997.2 C2S for 991 C2S?
That's an easy one--the answer is NO.
Let's assume that the 991 is indeed a little better than the 997 in most areas (handling, comfort, HP, noise, lighter weight, interior quality, etc...)
Ok, in my case, I have a 2009 C2S pdk with 23K miles. Let's say that I can get 60-65K on a trade-in (very optimistic). I figure that to buy a new 991 decently loaded will be $120-125K (at least). That's a $60K hit at trade in!
It's not worth it. (If I wanted the extra HP, I can mod the 997.2 for $3-5K
to equal the 991). That's a lot of money for a new car that is likely better but still way too similar to the car I already have...
If I had the itch for that new Porsche, I'd much rather keep the 997.2 and add the new Boxter to it when it comes out. That's a MUCH better use of $60+K!!!!
(note: going from a 997.1 to a 991 makes much more sense, as the differences are much greater...)

Yes, there's always room for another car...lol.
Yes, I'm thinking about the 991 Turbo in the future...
Yes, I'd consider adding the future Boxter to my 997.2
Yes, I'd also consider the new Cayman, perhaps even over the new 991 variants, because I like "change" when I get a new car, and it is an awesome car.
For now, I'm just happy with my 997.2. Any new car purchase will be ENTIRELY dependent on how my Biotech stocks perform....If I am lucky and hit a home run with either of my two largest biotech positions, I might look at the 458 Italia as my next purchase....lol

I'm not even sure I'd trade in my 997.1 for a 991. To be honest, I'm not crazy about what they've done. They've taken a few pages from the Panamera book, but almost every review I've read has basically damned the new iteration with faint praise. It's a continuation of the great Porsche 911 tradition - but not a revelation.
Besides - I just plunked down $69k for my wife's new A7!

Totally agree with your post. Only recommendation I have for you is to go in for a pristine air-cooled 911 for half the cost of a new Boxster. One that is well driven (not a garage queen), well up kept and unmolested. You will have fun sampling what an air cooled 911 is all about.

My dealer is offering an absurd amount of money for my 2005 997 as a trade for a 991... still have to come out with an absurd amount of money to make up the difference...
Besides, I had my 997 since november and I love it//// but the upgrade to a 991 is a no brainer.

For the most part I agree with the OP. I'd much rather send $60k or so and have TWO P-Cars (one being a convertible). But there are 2 dependencies:
1) Trade Value of the 997
2) Actual cost of the new Boxster or 991. New Boxster S might base at $60K, but when I do a build, I'm closer to $80K. And no discounts expected for a while...
