I haven't tried them but they look similar to the ones Rotec sells.

LED Tail Lights

I have noticed that several of the new after market LED tail lights have an empty, unused socket opposite the square clear back-up area of the lens.
Notice the reverse view of the lens unit on the bottom of the upper photo. There clearly is no bulb in the empty socket on left side.

Looking at a '09 997 with factory LED tail lights, (lower photo) there is no square clear area on the lens.

On past Porsches I've owned (944,958,993), they also had empty sockets in the rear light unit, which I attributed to higher lighting standards in Europe. I simply placed a bulb in the socket and ran a short wire from a stop light to increase my rear visbility when braking.

I am interterested in the new LED lights for my current 997.1, but want an acurate reproduction.

Insights?

I'm tempted at that price, but I've bought cheap Ebay lights before for an M3 and it was total hit or miss. I lucked out, friends leaked, short circuiting his wiring. Get what you pay for.

I love my Dectane rear LED's. So far the best OEM looking tail lights and have had 0 problems or dash light issues.

One thing I like about the eBay lights is the shape of the white area in the center... It follows the shape/outline of the red area. The Dectanes mimic the pointy shape of he 997.2 taillights for the *white* LED area, but the outside obviously still has the 997.1 taillight shape. This combination doesn't suit the 997.1 very well. I'm not interested in trying to pass off my 997.1 as a 997.2, and IMHO I feel like that is what the Dectanes are attempting.

I have those exact LED's on my '07 4S. The install was a *****. It wasn't easy due to the fact that you have to leave the lights hooked up as you attached each and every socket. So the assembly is just hanging there while you are trying to plug in every light socket. If you are going to install these put a towel or blanket around the bumper to prevent any accidents. The instructions were not very "detailed" however what I did was test each and every light when I installed them prior to putting the light back into it's permanent home.

After I got the job done...I got an error for light out. It was the driver's side light and I took it out and trouble shot the whole thing. Everything worked before???? I sent an e-mail to XRteam and they got back to me right away. They offered to return the bad one and send a new one. I had to pay for the new one though and a credit to be issued upon receipt of the defective one. I really didn't want to do that...but I felt the quick response and the fact they didn't try and make me feel it was my fault, I trusted them. Everything went smooth and I got the new one.

Of course, something else HAS TO GO WRONG!! Got the new switched out and no error on dash. Feeling great...took the car to get washed!! Get the car home and there is water dripping out the back!! Further investigation revealed NEW light assembly filled up with water and looked like a fish tank!!

Sent another e-mail to XRteam and they were right on it and rushed a new one out...quickly...especially when they got the pics of the water floating in the housing!!

I'm happy with them since they cost so much less than others, however there is that square section to allow for the "fog lamp" which uses the original light. I think that the ROTtech LED's very nice looking, but the price is up there as it is with most suppliers. I spend half of the money and got something decent and they work just fine. It's all about preference and since I wanted some LED's without breaking the bank...it was an easy choice.

I purchased the DRL's today from Ray at ROTtech and that will finish off the look I want. With the money I saved on the rear LED's I can get the DRL's. Ray was great to work with and "hooked me up" with his killer DRL's.

If you want more pics of the lights...let me know and I'll post them here for you to see. I can have pics with all the different lights on so you can see how it looks.

On another note...I wanted to be different with my Carrera logo so I got the Carrerra 4 done in flat black and the S is in Candy Red!! Thought that would make it different. Haven't see one yet like it!! This picture doesn't do it justice...I'll try and get a better one done...what do you think of it?

This is right on par with what I was talking about regarding ebay tail lights. You actually lucked out, my friend's M3 short circuited his wiring, ended up paying major bucks to get that repaired. Glad it worked out for you, but I'm tempted to go with the Ducane setup as many members have had positive experiences.

I agree....I tried to look up those same lights on E-Bay again...they are not for sale...at least I couldn't find them. I'm going to see how these work for now...no issues at this moment...but one error or problem and out they go!!

Looking at the new 991.......hard to say no!!
