Thumbs up another SmartTop install on 997.2 Cabrio

Hi, after reading of some other folks doing a Mods4Cars Smart Top install, I decided to order one from Pelican and do this great mod also.

It is an absolute joy to be able to push the remote and turn on and off the lights, my passenger side mirror now goes down to show the curb in reverse (I don't have memory seats and that is AWESOME!) and all the other assorted goodies (doors lock with movement, unlock with removing key..open/close cabrio top remotely while locking/unlocking car soooo awesome omg

It was easy to update the unit with my own settings and check that it was current firmware (just go to the mods4cars website, everything is there that you need) and the install manual with pics was great and easy to follow, even for a klutz like me.

Well, here are pics of the install..

I did mine last week. LOVE IT. Freaking LOVE IT. That said...

Did you put the velcro strap on? I don't see it on your last pic. If you didn't, you should. I read 20 different threads on installing this module and they ALL ended up saying the same thing in the end.....use the strap. The only problems people have had with the unit is those that don't use the strap and it comes lose on bumpy roads.

Having said that, you have to unscrew the black box it plugs into which is very easy IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT SCREWDRIVER. The installation guide is not for our cars, its for a 997.1 as you may have noticed we only had 2 plastic carpet screws. The guide says the black box to loosen and put the strap around is a phillips. Ours is not, it is some weird torque screw. I was able to use a #15 star shaped torque screwdriver that worked ok, but I actually had to go buy one just for that. Having said that, I would not run it without the strap.

Thx Katera--- I did the Velcro but will double check to make sure it's really secure. There is a five-picture attachment limit or I would have more (lol) -- I don't really do this sort of thing but after reading your and others success, was emboldened! Thank you sir.

Ahh great!

The smart top really is nice. I like the arm and disarm chirp myself.

Yeah.. That's probably the very best part. No more pulling the car handle. I never expected to get that along with a two second ish hold-and-release lock/unlock remote top up / down / windows up or down. It's just perfect. I drove a brand new Audi A5 cab before this car and the windows going up when putting the top down was also near my top few complaints. Now.. It's just the best and feeling like I really made the best decision instead of a 2013 Audi S5 cab. Wahoo !! Thank you Smart Top!!!

total_noob is infamous around these parts
I just bought a 997 TT cab and my passenger mirror tilts down when the car is put in reverse. Does this mean I got lucky and the previous owner installed a Smart Top? :-)

Or do the 08's come with this feature? I haven't noticed any of the other features that Smart Top enables, and I'm not really in the mood to open up the back to see if the Smart Top unit is there.
