Potential 991 goodies for the 997

2 things strucks me as potentially retrofittable when I drove the new car.

1) the modern wipers (finally). I run the new style wipers by valeo anyway, but I'll try OEM blades for the 991 if they fit.

2) the auto headlight switch. I think 997s with auto dimming mirrors have some type of sensor to measure daylight? If the connectors fit and the switch itself fits (big ifs) then it would be a great upgrade. I'm going to ask my service advisor to check it out.

I'll post back when I get some answers.

Both would be nice! Their is supposed to be some form of a valve controlled tube that allows the engine to be heard in the cabin. Assuming it doesn't leak exhaust into the cabin, that would be a fun thing to be able to turn on when the mood suits you.

It's a rubber bladder that pipes the sound through the a-pillars. Would almost certainly require a TON of labor to retro fit into a 997. Would be cool though, no doubt!

Prob. not as much work as retrofitting the sport exhaust was (with the dashboard switch).

The sound tube in the 991 sounds like they left the soundproofing out just in the back of the car. It's cool, although I didn't sample it closed. Not sure how successful turning it off actually is?

I'm fairly certain they wouldn't pump exhaust fumes into the cabin.

I'm hoping that the improvements in the PDK I've read about (I know, hard to believe it could be improved) are software programming only and can be applied to 997.2. I've talked with my service manager and he hasn't seen any info on it but will let me know if he sees something on it.

The channel goes from the intake manifold to the interior of the car (rear C pillar)

Cool thing is that the mechanical "sound" of the engine is inside the car. The result is similar to having a loud exhaust that travels from outside the car and eventually makes it to your ears. So, (and the Swiss are smiling) you get sport exhaust noise without bothering anyone outside the car

Very cool indeed.

Can you post pics of the 'modern wipers'?

Thanks

I definitely would love to get the auto headlight option if & when it becomes possible for my 997.2. I test drove the 991 with sport exhaust option & it definitely sounds great. The new car is fast, comfortable & civil(a bit too tame for me for now). I do prefer the feedback I get from my car, but I'm sure the 991 will grow on me over time.

Rear View Mirror.

Hi Guys,

I drove the 991 S today and really liked it. I can definitely see why it costs the extra dollars compared to the 997. One thing that caught my eye was the rear view mirror that is a cool shape. I looked at the back and it looks like it snaps out of the ball socket simply and exactly like the 997, the question is whether its the same size ball and socket. Curious if anyone knows. I might get it. Also would love to upgrade the wipers but you will need the arms too, but I do not know if they fit or not.

Hugh.

I was told that there were a few small internal mods in the PDK that would not allow a simple upgrade.

When I test drove the 991 I could not discern any difference in the PDK shifting from my 2012 997 S. So maybe I already have the changes since my car is a late 997 or maybe the changes are not that big a deal? I had the 991 in sport mode which is how I normally drive my car.

Wipers aside, before I spent a lot of money trying to make my 997 more '991-like', I believe I'd just pull the trigger and buy a 991.

Does anyone know, if its possible to retrofit the PCM 3.1 of the 991 into a 997, that currently has a PCM 3.0. Does anyone know, if this has been ever done successfully?

That's how I see it too.
