I have an appt Monday to get my new 06 c2s cab protected with star shield clear bra in Ontario... Are they good or are there better places to go ?

 

I have never seen their work personally but I checked out their website. They use 3M film... which I would not want. There are a lot of installers in SoCal including Premier... one of the best. I think you would be happier going with a better film... Xpel Ultimate, Prestige film through premier, or Ventureshield Ultra. Avery Nano Fusion is a great film but its not being produced right now... so you cant get a hold of it.

 

Interesting post. I, as thousands and probably most, have used 3M on several cars with always perfect results. Why would you dis. those who created the industry?

I had Ventureshield on my last car and currently have the Xpel. Personally I think the Xpel is complete garbage because it just does not give the same protection that the Ventureshield does. I am convinced that the Xpel is a thinner material. My clearbra already has tears in it, I never had that problem with Ventureshield.

So because leather bras were the original paint protectors woudl you say they should not be "dissed"? 3M may have started it off but they havent stayed with the technology the market has demanded. They still use acrylic for a topcoat... poor idea becasuse acrylic doesnt stretch and they use a paper backing which means there will be more orange peel in the film... another bad idea. 3M has become a lower end film compared to others who have improved their products over the years.

DenverSteve, 3M OWNS Ventureshield but dos not manufacture their film. VentureShield is still made the same way it was (prior to 3M buying their biggest competitor out) at a seperate facility. So it is a completely different film... and is honestly much better than 3M Scotchguard.

I too have Ventureshield film installed 4 years ago on my DD, still look very good today, yes there are a couple of spots that had been penetrated by stone but I hate to think how much paaint I would have lost if the film hadn't absorbed the energy first. Overall I am quite happy with my experience from the Ventureshield film installed on my car 4 years ago, however the thread above and the BMW thread really makes me wonder if 3M has had an impact on how Ventureshield is formulated now as compared to before.

As well Ventureshield film used to come with lifetime warranty against yellowing, peeling, bubbling etc., now it is only 5 years when I inquired with 3M a couple of months ago, I am disappointed but I guess it's the result of "Can't beat them? Buy them!"

I would be interested to see some tensile strength test numbers of 3M, VS, and XPEL, that will give a fair comparison of how well each film protects against high velocity incoming stones!
