The problems and resolution thereof, as well as performance, were such that I opted for ESS' setup, which had a custom tune and didn't have the same issues.

Nonetheless, given you're running low boost I doubt you'll have issues, and I've never heard of any on the 997. Granted, any boost is going to impact the life of the engine, but for what it's worth I had 50k+ miles on mine when I installed it and put over 30K with it any never an issues. The E46 M3 S54 engine is as high strung as the 997's.

With respect to TPC's setup and removal of the crash bar, this has been resolved as they reengineered the exhaust to not have to remove it. For Tiptronic cars they redesigned the cooler so the turbo doesn't have to share the same cooling for the Tiptronic, important in hot climates. The redesign now has a stacked cooler setup (still upfront) with the Tiptronic in the back, the turbo cooling up front.

The power delivery, in particular the torque of the turbo is superior to the supercharger. The Vortech .2 supercharger VF uses isn't known for torque, although it's very linear and has a nice power output - but at the end of the day you're running ~6 psi ( I suspect or slightly less) on the VF setup. I know the ASA blower used by ESS had a significantly higher torque output and was better in the low to mid range (turbo like performance which is what attracted me to it), whereas the Vortech excelled at the top end of the RPM range.

However, on just power alone the turbo output for the 3.6L is 520, and the 3.8L 550 - pretty much for the same money as the supercharger.

In any case, I think what you experienced in your test drive is something you'll just love in your car. Boost is very addicting. I had the my car with the supercharger setup for a little over 2 years and it was an absolute thrill to drive, and even though I wasn't always thrashing it, it was really nice knowing I had it on tap anytime I needed it! Congrats as I know you're going to love it.

For what it's worth, and not that it matters (perhaps for others?) since you've bought the VF setup, not sure if you've seen TPC's video on their turbo conversion:

Congrats again!
I'll have to look for that on the BMWs. I looked only saw positive comments. But, I'd like to know that! Thanks!

I have 45M on mine and its good to hear you have been problem free after installing at 50M and driving for 30M. I'm not familiar with the ESS system. I've ordered my VF, so that's where I'm going. I really liked the driving experience with the VF and it felt plenty torquey to me. I am interested in reading about the ESS system where can I get info?

It's great there are so many options for our cars! I think the VF has the most history over the highest number of vehicles, so that helped encourage my decision.

It's funny as soon as I placed the order, my car started feeling really sporty as I have it configured with the headers. I think it will be off the scale with the S/C!

That's good advice and yes I had mine analyzed. 100% clean. I'm fortunate we have Siegel Oil in Denver, so I can drop it off and come back te next day and talk through the results with them.

The ESS setup was for my M3 and unfortunately they don't have an application for the 997. I sold the ///M ~2 years ago and although I love the 997 I really miss the power. I'm planning on the TPC turbo after the first of the year.

Looking forward to seeing your post on the VF setup. You should dyno the car before the install then after.

You should also invest in the $25 to get your oil analysis

I'm hoping that my supercharger will be as much fun as this turbo:
