TPC Supercharger going on my '07 Targa 4S
We ran into a glitch. The supercharger does not fit into the 997 engine compartment without some modifications. The options are to either "contour" the inside of the car or to modify the inlet pipe. I choose to modify the inlet pipe, as we weren't comfortable messing with the body given the possibility of damaging the Targa bottom hatch rail. I'll know in about a week if this will work, due to some scheduled travel. Here are some photos:

IIRC, don't you have to drop the engine down a bit to get the S/C to fit, then bring the engine back up again?

I was favoring the S/C because I assumed I would get lag with a turbo kit. Having not driven the a turbo kit or a s/c kit I had nothing to base this on other than that the Porsche TT, despite being a twin turbo, doesn't really kick in until around 3,328 RPM, so I guessed a single stage would be more pronounced. Someone on here posted about driving their turbo and how when merging into tight rush hour freeway that boost can be a force to be careful of. I also felt it would allow me more flexibility with my exhaust, but what sold me was I found one in the box unwrapped on eBay for a great price.

My M97 never skipped a beat!
Don't be afraid to massage the engine bay a little. We had to as well but you never see it, even when the system is pulled back off.
Hey Doc! I'm excited! I got the photos to work. After Luke (Velocity Motors) and I talked with Tom at TPC, we decided to modify the inlet. Our concern was not messing up the bracket for the Targa hatch. While the cut looks pretty significant the inlet pipe has a crown or "V" shape on the top and it did not make as much of an alteration to the overall size of the pipe as it looks. Luke's racing this coming week, so we have to wait a week to see if it's going to fit.

I had the VF-E SC kit on my car for over 15k miles, and loved every minute of it. I did experience an unfortunate catastrophic engine failure, but it was not related to the SC kit, even though I was running a slightly modified kit to produce 530HP. I ran it at the track many times, at high RPM's for extended periods, in the heat of Atlanta, and never had a problem.
I have a new engine now, with a new 2 yr warrantee, and am already contemplating adding forced-induction, again.
The power was surreal. So smooth, effortless, just a whooosh and you're flying forward. I was faster than just about anything on the track in the straights, including GTR's, Ferrari's, Corvettes, etc. Untouchable. I miss that.
Anyway, enjoy your installation, and good luck with everything. I know you will enjoy it.
As others have said:
-keep an eye on intake temps
-keep an eye on engine temps
-keep an eye on AFR
I installed a custom LED multi-gauge in a sport chrono pod that monitored everything in the ODB-II as well as additional sensors I installed for AIT and AFR. If you're interested, here is that thread:

I picked up the pipe today from Mike at MPB Alumafab! Looks good! Debating on whether to powder coat the visible components. Will decide tomorrow. All I can see on the plus of powder coating is it will stay cleaner longer. Any other reasons?
Here are some photos of the modified pipe and Mike's excellent work:

Man, that is beautiful craftsmanship on that welding! Question;Did you have to mod that pipe just because your car is a Targa, or would it also apply to a cabriolet? I have an 06 C2s Cab and am seriously considering a power upgrade like this too.
I have not heard of a single person who did not truly enjoy their FI 997. My goal is to be another one of those people. Hopefully, I'm getting there slowly, but surely!
Anybody know the benefits of Powder Coating and whether it lasts under high teemperature?
