Persistent Blinking Lights on Locking 997.2

Yesterday evening, I parked my 09 997.2 in the garage, pressed the lock button on the key, saw the flashing lights indicating that the car was locked and went inside my house for a glass of wine. An hour or so later I happened to glance through my dining room window and noticed an orange colored flashing light in the garage. Sure enough it was the Porsche. I don't know whether they were still flashing from the time I had set the lock, or if the the parking lights began flashing again after I left the garage. When I checked the car all the doors including the engine compartment and the frunk were closed. I stopped the flashing by pressing the key fob button. This time the lights stayed off. Has anyone experienced this? Or is it one of those idiosyncratic bugs in the electrical system?

Mine did this Saturday night and killed my battery. Will try and sort this out this week. Did you ever get anymore information on this?

Well, that's good news. Thanks for the quick response! Hopefully I just need a new battery. Looks like we have Very similar cars.

Put new battery in car. Now the PDK shifts much smoother. I would keep an eye on the battery.

Update: The flashing lights have appeared again. This time after the car had been in the garage and locked for 2 days.

Buy new battery. Bought mine at Walmart . 94r max start I think. Changed mine in 15 minutes and I am not a mechanic, just follow owners manual directions. I changed mine with the battery tender plugged in. Will have a Pasm fault code when you restart but will go away in a few minutes. Call dealer first, I did. I think the blinking lights are telling you that the battery does not have a sufficient charge to run the security system.

He just bought a new battery. Battery shouldn't have anything to do with the PDK shifting better, that is super weird. Sounds like you have quite a gremlin, are you outside CPO? Something isn't right.

Check the voltage on the battery and report back, do you have anything aftermarket on the car that could potentially be draining the battery? It's a 997.2 so you shouldn't have the alternator problem, nor a LED hack.

I have read that a weak battery can cause the red transmission emergency run to appear at start up. Usually cured by a battery maintainer. The 09 batteries should just be about ending their useful life around now according to my dealer. My old battery would not even hold a charge. Car definitely shifts faster and smoother

Parking Light on when parked???

When I first got my 997.1 Cab, having driven a 996 for eight years, I was plagued by having a parking light on when I parked the 997 with the lights fully turned off. Solution: the 997 has a feature that when you park, if before you turn off the lights you flip on the turning light either right or left, when you turn the light switch fully off, a parking light will stay on.

It's not just 997 feature...most, if not all, european cars have it, narrow roads and all they want folks to see cars on the side of the road.

OP: Just to be clear, this is not a fault. Check the manual under parking light to see which feature you are unintentionally setting. Anything pertaining to battery charge or shifter is coincidental. Or, as I have it indelicately put, RTFM

Correct.

Yes, it is not an error; it is a feature. It is required of all cars in Canada and it makes sense.

Since I originated this topic, let me clarify what I intended to convey. Having lived and driven Porsches for several years in Europe, I am familiar with the "Parking light" feature, which allows the right or left signal light to remain on when the car is shut down (page 82 of the 4/08, 911 owner's manual). My problem is that after my car is shut down with all lights in the off positions, the front and rear parking/brake lights occasionally start flashing. These appear to be the same lights that flash twice when you lock the car with the key fob. This has happened twice in the past 3 months. I keep the battery on a Porsche tender, so I assume that the battery is not the problem. But as MichaelWWW suggests the original batteries for the model year 09 models, dating back to 08, are theoretically coming to the end of their useful lives. I will soon be taking my Porsche to the dealer to install a new multifunction steering wheel, and will have the tech check out the battery. I will update.

The parking light doesn't blink, its just a low power marker light that is on on the tail and headlight side based on the setting of the turn signal stalk.

If the lights are blinking, its a different issue than accidental setting of the parking lights... and parking lights would not come on if the turn signal stalk is centered.
