Mirror whistle
Mirror whistle
At 40 mph the drivers mirror starts to whistle. It does go away but at around 65 mph. I thought it was a wheel bearing or some other issue but it's not. If I put my hand over the open sideways "V" area between the mirror and door the sound goes away. Whats up with that.??
Do a search for this problem on this site and Rennlist.
It's a common problem. My does it on the passenger side. I just haven't dealt with it yet.
If I recall correctly, the issue is solved by removing the mirror and adding a thin bead of clear caulk when reinstalling it. The caulk improves the seal and you don't see it. I'll get to mine this summer.

Sorry. I don't have the link handy. I just recall reading about the solution on this forum or Rennlist some time ago. Feel free to search or if I come across it tonight I'll post it.
I had the same problem and drove me nuts. Here is the simple solution:
There is a horizontal "seam" in the middle of the mirror, between the upper and lower body of the mirror. Use the fine green "Frog" masking tape( Home Depot) and place it just above and under the seam. Run a thin bead of clear silicone along the seam, then run your finger over the bead to even it out. Take the masking tape off and you won't even be able to see the silicone bead.
Whistle gone!
Wish I took some pics when I did it.
Good luck.

I see a lot of posts regarding cabin noise(s), whistling, rattles, etc.
Here's the deal. Porsche shouldn't be selling their cars to anyone under the age of 60. I can tell you from an experience perspective (you got it . . . I'm well north of 60) that your hearing goes and so does those 'alleged' noises that irritate you guys in the cabin. I still here the sweet sound of exhaust, music from my audio system (albeit cranked up), driving style coaching from my spouse (lol), police sirens chasing me down the street (lol) so it's all good.
Good luck w/ your cabin noise suppression.

I had the mirror whistle too driving me nuts, and although it sounded like it was coming from the mirror, after hours and hours of experimentation with masking tape and weatherstrip foam I found that the noise was created by the air suction coming through between the support 'triangle' and rubber door seal at the area where the rubber sealing edge of the 'triangle' meets the door seal.
So I pulled the door seal away from the body seam a little above where the top door hinge is and pulled/stretched it upwards a little, lifting it away from the seam and pressing it back into place little by little, thereby moving more rubber upwards to create a thicker mass of rubber where the triangle edge is. This now applies more pressure against the triangle and window. Now I'm the only one whistling in the car! Hope this helps someone.
