yep, ATT switched top 4G on the new iPhones 4S with the new software update. Since T-Mobile started making their own standards in regards of what 4G really is, ATT followed suit..

Unfortunately it's not real 4G, friend of mine has the Samsung Galaxy SII LTE, his says 4G, my 4S says 4G, not even close to his speed.

i guess is like broadband or DSL... you can have DSL with 1.5 mbs or 12 mbs and both are DSL...
