Ghosting after Debadging
Ghosting after Debadging
I just debadged my Carrera because I wanted to add the P O R S C H E emblem in the rear. Despite several attempts with rubbing compounds, polishes and an orbital buffer, there is still a crinkle in the paint where the badge was. Do you think that wet sanding it would smooth it out? It may be a bit difficult to see in the picture, but hopefully you can see what I mean.
was ur car repainted before ? that doesn't look right..
it may be be glue leftover.. but i would think with the compound and a buffer, it should come off..
i would try little goo gone if it is glue.. (be sure to wax after)
or btter yet, try asking moe in the detailing section or PM him

p.s. after looking at the paint where the red car reflects, i am pretty sure it has been re-painted.

Wow and I only removed my S to replace with a red one.I just had to use a little bit of polish and all was gone!Looks like it would be in the clearcoat.Someone will chime in or maybe check in the detail section of forum?Good luck!
I de-badged the "Carrera" script for a "911" badge and I ran into the same thing. I used goo-gone (waste of money), pre-wax cleaner, Zymol with an orbiter to no avail. I took it to the bodyshop that did some work on the car and they took it off with a compound. Prior to that it was a PIA!
On the other hand I didn't have a "crinkle" in the paint versus a slight impression of the "Carrera".

I just took it to a body shop and they told me that the Texas heat caused the adhesive to stick to the clearcoat. They would have to sand the entire area and repaint. Oh well, I guess I will put the old emblem back on.

Interesting discussion. I just swapped the Carrera for a 911 badge last week and it went smooth as glass. Followed the advice of the board -using a blow dryer and dental floss to remove old badge and remaining glue. I used Meguiers 3 step (clay bar, wax, polish) treatment three times on the old badge ghost. By the end of the second 3 step treatment the ghosting was completely gone. Did a third time just to be totally sure. 911 badge looks great. No sign what so ever of old badge. Good luck.
The TX heat is pretty brutal, especially on a black car. I worked on it some more with rubbing compound (3M) and it looks a little bit better but still not smooth. The quote to repaint was $500.
I had a very tough time getting mine off, and I admittedly used some abrasive stuff. I ended up with ghosting and micro scratches and I was crushed. I had a great detail guy work on it and it came out really nice. Problem solved and I've been happily de-badged ever since!
