looking to lower the car by 25-30mm
looking to lower the car by 25-30mm
what is the best setup, just springs, if so which ones or coil overs and then which ones of those... i have the adjustable system in the car now, i guess its pasm, the button on the dash is the shock absorber, goes into sport mode when engaged, i'm thinking just springs cause of cost ,,,which setup is going to keep the ride the smoothest, i'm not going to the track, well maybe once or twice around the ring, but not looking for track-wise setup, want to keep 'er comfortable, thanks, kk
Volumes have been written about springs on these forums.
Since you have PASM, I believe your car already sits lower than non PASM cars.
Since I recently went through the same excercise, and assuming that the springs for my turbo are the same for NA cars, there are 2 candidates + variations.
H&R which as per info on the forums may have a dampening rating which is softer than stock and seems to be the softest of the available offerings.
Eibach which is sold as such, or special derivatives for TechArt and GMG. GMG is again according to info published here the most desirable solution. It is likely that it is also the stiffest. And Techart is somewhere in the middle.
My first hand experience from the H&R's I installed a few weeks ago:
Drop is 0.8 of an inch front and rear, with the easy measurement floor to fender.

Having said that, this method does leave a lot to be desired, as the spot on the floor needs to be the same, and the tape measure must not bend or take an angle etc.
According to Cannga, who has written pages about his car set up, the proper way to measure, and the official one used by Porsche is seen here. Stock for the Turbo from the points below is 132mm front/153mm rear

Impressions: The car seems 10-15% stiffer overall. Travel of the suspension seems less, and at 40-50 miles bad pavement makes the car a bit jittery. It seems that as the springs are progressive, the dip is not far from factory, but the bounce is stiffer, and definitely shorter, making it feel stiffer overall. At high speeds and warp speeds the difference is amazing.
Overall, it is certainly not obtrusive, and it is something you will get used to real quick, without ever wondering if it was better before...
Good luck.

is that good or bad amazing? who is GMG, i haven't heard of them, but i don't want stiffer anyway, not gonna track, this is mainly for the aesthetics...so you did the install yourself, special tools like spring compressor, others? thanks for your help, kk

Good amazing! Stability, no nose bobbing. I use to press the sport button, but now I dont.
GMG Racing is a sponsor of the forum and one of the better known US firms for performance tuning. More HERE. No affiliation of course.
No, the install was done by my specialist here in Greece. From what I read it is a job that requires a few hours, 5-6 so be aware of the relevant charges. And then of course an alignment is required. Look for something better than factory alignment specs, they leave a lot to be desired...

even if u don't track, coilovers are the best way to drop ur car.
Bilstein will even let u keep ur pasm.. but i personally prefer KW3
However, if u don't want to spend the dough, u can go with Eibach springs, which are supposedly identical to the more expensive TechArt springs.
u can do the work urself, but most shops do not charge a lot for this relatively easy job.

dianic, you live in greece! awesome...how are things there, living in germany we hear a lot about the struggling economies to the south, hope all is well for you and thanks for the replies, don't yet know which route i'll take here, but something will get done this week, pics to follow, of course , cheers,
Things are difficult... And the press in the rest of Europe isnt helping. Unfortunately, there is a great effort to present the case based on a particular angle that suits each country's policy the best.
The fact of the matter is that this is a crisis of the Euro, and it extends way beyond Greece. Unfortunately, they tried to make an example of us, which failed miserably, because this is a crisis of the system... After all we represent close to 3% of the European Union GDP. Could have swept it under the carpet (I mean dealt with it, but without all the hoo-haa and the big statements) and possibly save a Spanish or Italian crisis. Now, we are flirting with an "extreme" left government on the repeat elections of June 17th, which is being brought by extreme austerity measures taken, and the pressure put on the people. That will most likely take us outside the Euro I fear. Lets hope it will not be the case.
