rain sensor
rain sensor
is it possible to retrofit this option if the car didn't come with it? had it on previous 997 and didn't think much of it at the time, but now that i don't have it, i find that it was a nice feature that worked quite well, seems like it might be do-able...anyone know?
Probably not worth the cost (I'm sure if it can be done it will be very costly) and since no one's repsonded but me, pretty indicative that no one knows...or cares - OEM doesn't work that well.
well, thanks for the reply, i thought it worked quite well on my previous...thought it was just a sensor on the windshield, guess there''s more to it than that...
Kevin - It seems obvious, but did you try searching any of the parts web sites? It took me about 15 seconds to find the rain sensor parts on the Auto Atlanta web site. It appears that the sensor and the wiring harness will run you about $400 (part # 9976126930 & 99761269500). I have no idea if you'll need other parts and how difficult the install will be.
I know you could do it with the 996 becuase I did it to mine. Not sure about the 997. I bet Ryan at Suncoast could tell you.
On my 996. You got the sensor and a new relay. Sensor plugged into the back of the relay and you were done.

If the rain sensor element is located behind the mirror mount post, you would have to run the wires up from there into the head-liner. I remember someone on this forum wanted to retrofit an auto-dimming mirror and was told by the dealer it would be prohibitively difficult to run the wires through there-- I imagine it would be a similar for the rain sensor as well.
