70~100K Budget, what to buy?
Said he couldn't do GT-R. Not his style... Ironically - I agree with you. It sounds like the perfect car for him. Lower initial cost, retains value, loads of torque, dual clutch, AWD, and it can handle freezing temps even on summer tires (done it), because of the computers... Put all-seasons on it, and call it a day, no need to switch to snow tires (Boston has a decent snow program).
The only concern would be the ride height of the car for streets that have not been plowed yet. But you'll experience that with any of the sports cars he is considering.

So, seems like I have two options:
2011 C2S - around 80k - with 4~5 years of warranty left
VS
2007~2009 Turbo - around 80~100k - with Tiptronic and 2 years of warranty left
What do you think is a wise choice?
1. What will have a better resale value when the time comes? (I heard that 997 values are not well maintained due to 991)
2. Is it worth going to turbo at the price of giving up PDK?
3. How bad is Tiptronic?
Basically what would you do if you were in my shoes?
Thank you!
As someone else mentioned, you have to get out there and test drive all the models you're considering. IMO each offers some unique features that seem to please the individual.
To narrow it down you need some seat time, education on features, options, drivetrain, etc...
I believe you'll figure it out quickly once you test drive and get to see the models parked next to each other.
One will stand out vs. the others and that's the one you should get.
For what it's worth it won't end after you decide and purchase the car. You'll end up knowing more about Porsches down the road and begin to wonder about this or that...GT2, GT3RS, etc...
Fact is they are all awesome machines in their own right and are a pleasure to own, drive and experience.
Good luck in your search.

This (below) is spot on.
I lived in BOS for years and it is a tough place to drive, and a tougher place to drive a stick even when you are an experienced MT driver. Bad signs, bad roads, bad weather, thoughtless drivers.
Whether an experienced manual driver or not, the GT3 is simply a non-starter. Outstanding car, but driving it as a DD is a worst-case-scenario for that car and I suspect you will regret the purchase.
Having AWD as a DD in BOS weather will inspire confidence and will increase the safety threshold, all of which is needed when driving on BOS roads and fighting BOS traffic.
I'd go for the 997.2 4S for sure with PDK. In truth, I still think the car will live a tough life in the city as a DD. Sure, it's plenty strong and will hold up to the weather, roads and traffic. But I suspect it will look worn sooner than you'd like, risks being vandalized, and you won't often get the joy of driving a Porsche in that city environment. BTW, where are you going to park it? In a protected inside parking spot I assume?

The man lives in Boston and needs a DD. 997.2 C4S or turbo CPO is the way to go. GT3 is silly for him. As far as MT vs PDK they are both great and we are lucky to be able to actually choose. Drive them both during your commute and make a decision. Personally would not want to learn to drive stick in Boston in a 911 but it's your call.
Good luck.
Good luck.
I would go with a 997.1 TT 07-09 all day long in that price range. I have an 07 TT tip. I went from a 6 speed to a tip because traffic in Houston sucks. Tip is a joy to drive. Turbo is not any more maintenance then a NA car. The worst is a plug change. Lots of part have to come off to change them but that is only every 40k miles or 4 years.
