C4S winter tyres question

Hello,

My C4S is currently running on its factory sized 305/30 R19 rear tyres and the alloys are 11.5 J x 50 (Carrera Classic design).

I am considering fitting winter tyres going down the tyre replacement route, therefore using the same alloys. I only seem to find winter tyres measuring 295/30 R19 for the rear.

Will these fit ok on the alloys?

Yes. I use stock 19's for my winter set with 295/30 r19 rear tyres.

They don't make a 305/30R19 winter or all-season tire for our car. I have the Pirelli Sottozero and Bridgestone Potenza AS960 as my winter setup in 295/30R15 and they have been fine.

I was at the local dealers last friday having a new steering wheel fitted
and as I was waiting I was reading all their literature.
I remember reading a service thing about winter tires.
I will have a look and grab a copy when I'm there again this friday.

For what it's worth (my 25 yrs of Pcar winter driving) I would not combine Pirelli_Bridgestone. They really don't get along well together. Besides, many would tell you the Sotto SerieII are a far better tire.

And.....remember, when messing w/tire sizes on either the C4 or Turbo that they do need roughly that 3% differential front-rear in rolling diameter (2.5-3.5)......of course that's different than 996 where front-rear could be the same.

In terms of tyres I am likely going to go for Nokians, currently trying to find out what model though (W+, WRA3, WG2...) as it appears that they have not made any 295/30/19 since 2010, so I don't know what my supplier has found...

Failing that I would go for Michelin Alpins or Pirelli Sottozero.

Just FYI, I have 2 separate sets of winter setup. Here in Seattle, it snows maybe 2-3 times a year and the rest of the winter is all rain. It seldom gets below zero Celcius so running the Sottozero in above zero weather will wear them off quickly. Last winter was my first winter with the 4S and I ran the AS960, even in snow and had no problem with them. This year, I have added a set of Sottozero in anticipation of making trips to the mountains. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Not winter tires, but has anyone used All Season tires and any comment would be appreciated. 2011 4S. PDK.
Will see some snow, but mostly just cold temps, 30's during day.
Brands?

I ran the AS960 last winter on my 4S. No problem in the snow / cold rain.

Winter tyres

I have the Pirelli sottozero series II 295 30 19 rears on oz ultralegerra wheels 11.5 for my winter setup,235 35 19 fronts. Will install when temps fall to 35. Got them from Damon at tire rack. Rears can be in short supply. More tire choices if you have 18 inch winter wheels. I also have vorsteiner 19x12 wheels. But 295 will not fit on that size wheel. A 305 30 19 MPSS will fit ok as my DD tyre on my c4s.

Thanks for the update, interesting to know.

I need the tyres in Italy, so I assume it would be too expensive / complicated to deal with the US on this...

My Nokian tires on Victor Equipment wheels are en route from Marcus at Waukegan Tire. Marcus was extremely knowledgeable about Winter Setup and All season tires. These are for my 2011 4S... I'll post my tire opinion soon...

Sottozeros are great

I ran the Pirellis on my C4S for the past 3 Chicago winters and they were great. I now have a Panamera, so if anyone is interested in black Victor equipment wheels with Sottozeros (~5k miles), PM me !

Anthony
