iPad mini on the 997
Thank u guys!
The bezel, which I think is the second most important part of the built (for OEM look) is the very edge of a original Porsche part.
That bezel is the GT2RS radio elimination shelf. Pretty much, you cut everything and leave the bezel only

you need to get rid of the shelf part.

Thanks Joel! Should we call it the JoelPirela Ipad mod? Or the Pirela Ipad install from now on? How about the JPad Mod?
By the way, the link didn't work. But I found it on the Suncoast site. If you cut everything off, how does it come together with the ipad and the car?
I will anxiously wait to see more development as you progress.

That's too funny!
The link is working now...
You have two ways of attaching the bezel to the ipad... little tabs that goes to the sides or..... magnets! that attach to the ipad's bezel.
thanks again!

Closer to the JPad Mod
Word is that Apple is already working on the next iPad mini to upgrade it with retina display like its bigger brother. Sounds logical. My opinion is that retina display would go unnoticed in this application (I have both versions of iPads.), since we're rarely reading fine text in the car.
The good news is that the current iPad mini would drop in price prompting us closer to this mod! Keep up the good work Joel!

Joel, which wiring harness did you get from Euromotorsports? Was looking on the web site but could not find it. I have a 2008 997, I want to move forward on installing as well. I have the GT elimination radio elimination shelf, but cannot find the cable accessory. Also do you have the pinouts or color codes? Your awesome, love the idea and the fabrication to date. Thanks, Jim
I looked at doing this with the original iPad a few years ago on my 996. In the end I figured it wasn't worth all the fabrication that would be required. So when the iPad mini came out, it renewed my interest. But, now I'm looking to get a 997 so this thread is really interesting.
I just have 2 comments:
1) You definitely want to get the 4g model because it is the only one with real GPS. The wifi model just guesses based on your connection.
2) Most people who have done this properly have used the Audison Bit One. It is a digital signal processor that can handle many inputs (analog included). You could use the istreamer if you are on a budget. The Audison Bit One has a small control device that is good looking and good for volume control. I wonder if it would fit in the ash tray location or the storage in front of the base of the shifter.
It would be interesting to see if there was an easy way to get a backup camera and bluetooth phone connection. I wonder if you could tap in to the stock microphone somehow.
The ELM327 WiFi is now very cheap ($30 on eBay). You can use fuzzycar, rev or dash command to interface with your OBDII.
Looking forward to see more people attempt this.

For the wire loom, you have to contact Loi at EuroMotorsports. he will ship u the connector with instructions for $20. The only extra thing, is to power your amp with switched power to the blue/white wire.
Since the iPad mini is the same form factor as the 4G one, I may get the whole set up up and running and later switch to the 4G and give the WiFI to my daughter...
