I'm in the process of doing exactly the same thing you did.
Bought my donor panel on ebay this morning.

In the pics the TEMP and the fan buttons look like stickers that may be pealing on the edges. How does it look in person? Can you see this imperfections?

Not sure why the use two different types of black paint. The paint is glossy around the emblems. Then masked and the rest is flat black. Perhaps the gloss black provided a cleaner edge for the graphics when removed. They are not stickers. I have an extra set of buttons now. I may send them to be redone for backups.

 

That's my exact plan as well.
And then I didn't have to have missing buttons in my car for a week too.
Seemed worth the cost of the donor panel that I paid $74.99 for.
