C4S questions

Hi, Just read a long review on the 991 C4S and it sounded awesome.
Can anyone clue me in on the differences from the later (2009 and up) C4S'
and the 991 model?
Anything to avoid or seek out in the later 997 models?
thanks much

The 991 4S is still relatively new worldwide and the cars are still rolling in from across the ocean. Yours is probably a question better asked at the 991 forum. There's a giant thread on the new 991 4 and 4S here:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...w-991-c4s.html

Just to name a few differences:
- new body shell with a less acute A pillar and more sloped roof line
- brand new suspension with available PTV & PDCC
- 7 speed manual transmission
- slight power bump
- optional 20" rims available
- completely revamped interior, alas Panamera style
- more electronic gadgets available, including Burmester sound system, Porsche Entry and Drive ("keyless" start), automatic headlights (that's so less decade), and active cruise control

C4S are heavier cars ESP compared to GT3. And less giddy up compared to the turbo. Great for winter driving with winter tires in cold sub 35 degree conditions. One big difference is the price difference of a 997.2 C4S and a 991 C4S. Do the math. Test drive a 997.2 c4S stick or PDK to see if you like those wide hips.

I believe the 991 C4S has a little less widening to the hips. The 997 4S is 42MM wider than the 2S, but I think the 991 C4S is in the 30MM range (maybe 36MM??) compared to it's sibling 2S. The 991 C4 is 42MM wider than the C2 which I find odd (that there is a difference between the non S 991 body width). I may be wrong on all of this because I am still trying to figure out the 991 AWD models compared to the non-AWD. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I noticed that there is an interesting electronic guage that shows how much power is being transferred to the front wheels relative to the back wheels on the 991. Not sure how that is helpful, but it's not on the 997. The biggest difference is in the price of the two!

thanks all for the response and K-e-v this is the kind of info I was looking for. I also finally found a salesman who actually knew what he was talking about. He got me stoked on the 991 carrera S, as a lighter more nimble model and he also told me you can order the x51 power pack as well

The S coupe, with a base price of $98k ends up at $148 with the power pack, aero kit, pdk, pasm, adaptive sports seats, bose etc!!!

Anyway, the new platform moves the engine forward 4", allows a longer wheel base and a base car that weighs only 3100 lbs. Amazing and with the x51, faster in a line and also at the track than 997 gt3.
Roll on technology.

997.1, 997.2 and 991 all have the same widths -1808mm for the C2 and 1852mm for the C4. The "S" designation has no bearing on body width.

It bugged me where I might have gotten my width differences, but I was correct in that the 991 C4 has a 42MM wider rear track and the C4S has a 36MM wider rear track (I mistook this for bodyshell width). However, both have a 44MM wider body shell than the C2 and C2S cousins. The rear track is the difference.

FWIW
