Dash cam mounting?
Dash cam mounting?
Thinking of getting a 100.00 dash cam. It looks really nice and has the feature I need. The only thing is the grain on the dash will not allow the suction cup to suck. I would like to mount it on the rear view mirror but not sure how. Does any one have any ideas?
Lol duct tape too
Thought about that may be a far reach and stuff on my glass
I want to show my family how comical drivers are in Florida. It's a huge laugh being from WI
From your post I gather you've yet to buy.
You can use the suction cup windshield thing but for daily use it's kinda big.
I use my GoPro for group drives and stuff but I think it would bug me after a while.
I've been checking out various types of dash cams on eBay. Small cylindrical types than can bassically mount high infront of the rear view mirror.
Endless loop that just keeps recording. Even with the car shut off.
Or if so inclined and you have an iPhone, you can get a windshield mount and get any number of car DVR apps that do the same.

I have a dash cam that is built into the rearview mirror (it's actually a slightly larger than stock mirror that clips onto the stock mirror). It has the lens on the backside and even has a small LCD screen in the mirror itself. It's totally stealth and I have it permanently hardwired... unless I point it out, no one even realizes it's there from the inside or out.
It's a cheapo cam from China that was less than $100. Image quality is actually pretty good (at 720p) and it loops recordings (about 4 hours on a 16gig micro SD card). I installed it because there are so many bad drivers in Vancouver but will also use it for track days/auto-x.
The Korean dash cams (like the Blackvue) have the best image quality and more features like GPS position/speed on the images, but not as stealth as the one I bought. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

i use a Contour Roam as a dash cam. very simple operation, only one switch on and off, 170 degree angle and HD quality. i have a suction cup mount tacked in under the mirror and it does not bother me at all...
I have a huge memory card and i can shoot HD video probably for over 3 hours, which is more than enough for the type of driving... Even if it gets full and i dont need the footage, i just click a button, erase the memory card and continue shooting video...
There are a few other choices with GPS, etc but nothing can beat the 135 dollars i paid including the suction cup from Amazon...
Plus i can mount the camera outside the car for racing, on a helmet, on a rifle, my paintball markets, etc etc...
