Shift Knob
Shift ****
Hi:
I'm looking to replace the **** **** on my 2006 911S. The porsche store quoted me $400+/- for the part and $37.50+/- for the labor. This got me thinking, with such small labor costs, is this something I could replace on my own fairly easily? Also, is that a good price for the ****? Thanks.

I replaced mine with one from Rennline which cost about $90. Machined billet aluminum in either silver or black it's much nicer, and less expensive, than the oem. Link: http://www.rennline.com/Rennline-Alu...uctinfo/I14.1/
Best,
PS Instructions are included in the link.

It's a very easy DIY. But can be extremely difficult if you simply try to pull the old **** off after twisting the plastic lock ring to unlock. On many older cars, the original ***** are wedged in very tight that using brute force to "pull" it off isn't enough.
The trick I used was to use vice grip pliers and attach it to the base of the shift pole, with a gap between the vice grip clamp and the bottom of the ****. Then I inserted a wrench in between the gap and used the wrench as a lever to "push" the **** up from its base. Came off very easily that way.

just curious, what are the reasons to replace the ****? is it just cosmetic or is there performance or ergonomic reason? I like my stock ****, I just had to clean the grooves out from time to time but I see that people quite often switch out the *****.
It's obviously for looks.
We have a full selection of different shift ***** and boots to choose from, for more information Click Here.
