Thanks. Do you also think that a good Porsche-specialized indy would not be able to reset them? Seems odd. Does anybody know?
I am asking because I know that one of mine is about to go. Very little time left on the sensor battery, and would like to change all four of them who are probably going in 16-20 months (durametric reading shows 24mo. charge left).
If I go with my indy, he would install the aftermarket that I buy online. This would save me about $600, and TP sensors are not something that really needs to be OEM. Anybody has experience on this?

Never heard of hibernate mode - my installs of OEM sensors have always been just "plug and play" - maybe someone should check with the wheel experts like Tire Rack or Wheel Enhancement.

NO you do not need to go to the dealers to install this! Any tire / wheel shop should be able to swap your sensors out for you. No special coding / software necessary, the car picks it up on its own.
If the 'tpms inactive' does not go away after 5 minutes or so that means the sensors are done. Thats kind of how they are...working one minute dead the next.
As for the costs, you can get all 4 sensors (buy aftermarket) for a total cost of $180. The install will cost you around $100 for all 4 wheels. Total job should be under $300! Good luck.

I have heard of the need to wake them up. Any indi tire shop will have a wand for that. ALSO, it took a long time (seemingly) for my car to recognize the new ones. Much longer than a wheel swap with sensors. It took nearly 10 miles! I was totally surprised and was on the way back to the shop to have them fixed when they finally initialized.

I am a few miles from you. Would you give me the name of the shop where you had it done? Also, can I also ask you where you bought the sensor? Sounds like you got a really good price.
Between parts and labor, it'd cost more than $1000 to get this done at a dealership. Amazing.
