997 Regular Oil Service Intervals

Porsche recommends once a year or 10k miles whichever comes first. My indy recommends 6 mos. or 5k miles whichever comes first. Porsche dealer charges $300, my indy charges $169. So my indy is not really saving me anything. Is there any pros/cons to doing it one way or the other?

tiyyara will become famous soon enough
I do no once a year at dealership and the car still runs :-)
This is like splitting hairs.
I do not think 5k or 10k makes a difference with todays oils unless you live in extreme climates, drive only very short distances, track the car or drive in an inconsiderate manner (to the engine)

sixgun95 is on a distinguished road
For an 06 the maintenance schedule says 20000 mi or 2 yrs. Personally I think we overdue it, manufacturers recommendation is fine I am sure. But like all of you I just did it at 5k.

For the 2008 MY, Porsche reduced the oil change interval to 12K miles from the previous 20K miles. I believe they must have learned something along the way. My car is a weekend driver so I am changing the oil once per year which comes to about every 4K miles.

I'm told by my Indy that the only real danger to the engine is dirty oil, and he has recommended every 6 months/1 year, whichever comes first. My 2010 997.2 C4S Cab is my new daily driver (just traded in my '04 BMW 645 CI Cab), where I changed my oil every 10k. Any explanation for the difference?

I found this document somewhere in the web. According to it, it's 12,000 miles or every 2 years for 05-07 Carrera/S. I'd stick to the 5k/1yr schedule. Oil change does not hurt the wallet so much but it goes a long way towards the longevity of the engine.
