My budget audio install updated 3/22/15
Nah! I could prove that the 198X cars have it too. Join us the Pelicanparts forum and you'll see tons. The 99X cars are still too new to be wrenched for a compilation of deviations. Let's hope automation/robotics made them all exact!

198x cars arent handcrafted ))) they are also stamped metal welded by robots. with plastic parts casted from one mould. this is why car dismantles have their business. but of course if car was wreked 20 times then welded from 3 other - there will be deviations for sure ))) here in Russia we call them in joke BLS - Burnt Latvian Shapeshifters, because business to made 1 car from 3 hard wrecked of burned then sell to newbie car owner that still exists in Latvija for more than 30 years.
I would appreciate more info on the center speaker replacement. Would appreciate recs on replacement. Seen where a tweeter was used, but does it need a high pass filter? Would prefer a coax if that's what's in there now.
I've used an identical Focal tweeter with good results for 2 years now. The oem speaker is a 2" full range unit. The fill provided has little impact on the sound, but you don't want to leave the stock speaker in there.
Any special place your sourced yours or do you have its mate you would be willing to sell?
Actually did a deal with a fellow member and split a set myself! Ebay sometimes has vendors that sell only the tweeters for example.
Hi K...I did the install with the Focal tweeter center and have a spare. PM me if still interested....
How did the install go? How do you like the system?
Really great...very clean sounding. I went with the 8" woofs in the doors. Install wasn't too bad. The step by steps were really helpful! I got a little hung up on the wiring, and which ones were positive v. negative. I found a good schematic on-line that helped. I did the MDF for the 8" spacers, which worked well, and allowed me to trim to ensure my panel installed flush at the bottom.
Great thread. I have a 997.2 C2.
I installed the 8" and 4" focals in the front doors and also dash tweeters. I disconnected the center and rears. I installed the Daytons.
I noticed an improvement right away, but... after a couple hours of break-in......
WOW! This is a fabulous upgrade. The quality of the highs is superb, but it is better all around.
Much much much more detail and clarity. And I would not call it bright, just clear and detailed trebles.
Someone earlier in the thread remarked that distortion kills a system and I agree. In this case, the Bose drivers themselves that cause distortion.
And they are some cheap looking drivers too. Look like something that came out of a clock radio.
With the Bose speakers I felt there was a null right around the male vocal frequency. That's improved. I am going to take an RTA measurement and decay waterfall. I will post that later. I should have done a before and after.
I think the 8" drivers contribute the most to the improved bass. On upright bass I can hear the notes and not just 'one note bass" also known as mud. The Daytons probably add some low end extension.
The Bose amp powers the Focals to very loud levels and clear, I really doubt a more powerful amplifier would do much, if anything considering the LOUD and C L E A R sound.
I am going to install the rears now, but really I think you could get 90% benefit with just disconnecting the center and everything in back.
That would make it a $300 project, that's a smashing success!
Bravo RyeM3!
P.S. If you like inexpensive upgrades, how about a free one? Remove the yellow warning stickers on the sun visors. Looks way classier.

Frequency response measurements
I had a long drive last night where I played with settings. I settled on these settings.
SETUP
997.2 Bose amp, 8" + 4" focals in doors, focal tweeters dash, dayton subs, no 4" rears
PCM SETTINGS
bass +2 fader +5
Measured to 500 hz. These are some excellent measurements and match my preferences for a bass enhanced house curve. It shows good extension down to 35, which is great and more than I expected. Confirmed by my test tracks to deliver! A little boomy on decay down low, but the car cabin is a challenging environment.
