X51 Confirmed in U.S.A.

Just received the 2006 U.S. 997 S order guide and indeed the X51 is available as an option. $16,900. Ouch. Will anyone pay that premium for the option?

Well there goes my theory of Porsche finally being smart and having a competitive price with the Tuners... For less than $8,000 we, and just about every other tuner, get the same HP (380). I mean yea it doesn't come with a CF Airbox, but if you want one, I will throw one in with the kit for the bargin price of $5000.

17k? For 30 horses? Come on porsche, seriously, x50 at least was understandable somewhat but 17k for intake, ecu, pse, and cylinder heads?

For that price the 997 S with X51 better be faster than a 996 GT3

As a member of your beloved demographic, I know you are laughing at me for paying sticker for the car, but I take a bit of satisfaction in that the production of astroglide this fiscal year will fall short of my demand in order to get that option box checked.

05997S:

Did I read that right? LOL. Not enough lube in production to get you to pay for the X51 option? LOL.

Porsche follows the BOHICA Philosophy :

Bend Over Here It Comes Again.

I guess they figure if you are a sucker before, you'll be a sucker again. This is the reason why I feel no remorse when the Porsche dealers had to give $6,000-$8,000 discounts off the 996's.

And then two years later they will build a very special edition 997 WITH the powerkit, charge stupid money for the packaged car, then have to discount the crap out of them because they won't sell at that price.

Duh.

I thnk they know what they are doing in this case, releasing the power kit before the GT3 or Turbo so more people will be willing to fork up the dough to have the greatest and latest currently. X51 cars will be the hot thing to have until the GT3 and Turbo hit and then who is going to want an x51 997 S when you can fork up a little more and have the GT3 (If you want N/A )?

from what I've heard from a few qualified sources... x51 has always been underrated.... the 996 X51 kit was rated at 25 hp... but it was more like 44 (as 364 is the whisper number)

the 997 kit at 30HP should easily be 50 additional ponies.... with new camshafts, intake manifold and tuning you can't possibly match it with a flash... (although the flash is noticeable) the camshafts changes the character of the car.

$17K for even 50 hp is just crazy. Realize that you can get an EVOMS SUPERCHARGER for that price & get 130-150 hp !!! AND GET CHANGE BACK ($13K installed) !!! PCNA is crazy. Like Eric said, I'll guess I'll wait for some random anniversary edition to get priced at a $20K discount. You are right about the camshafts, in looking at the dynos it pushed the powerband up a bit. Not sure if that helps everyday drivability, but it must make it a hoot when playing in the upper rev range.
