Newby with many questions
- Seats - I changed my stock seats to Adaptive Sport Seats Plus and that's as simple as disconnecting the battery, 4 bolts and 1 wiring harness plug per seat, then reconnecting the battery. Make sure you understand the seat model names when looking at vehicle adds. Stock seats are those that have the narrower backs and can be either full leather or partial leather (back are leather on the full leather seats). Sport Seats are the ones with the dark metallic grey backs, the shoulder supports, taller headrest, and better side bolsters. These can come in manual or power versions. On the manual versions, the fore/aft movement and the height and seat bottom angle are adjusted by handles, but the backrest recline is always power. Then there are the Adaptive Sport Seats Plus that also add power inflated side bolsters to the horizontal and vertical side portions of the seats (you can tell these by 2 additional silver buttons on the front outside corner of each seat). Then there are 2 different versions of Bucket seats, all of which are carbon fiber I believe. On the older and more hardcore version, the angle of the backrest is not adjustable and the seat top does not fold forward for access to the rear seats. On the newer version they are hinged so you can access the back seat, but I don't know for sure if the backrest portion is also adjustable or fixed in a specific angle.
Guys, hope all these questions are ok. This car is not local, so trying to do my home work before I travel to see it. I'd prefer to find something local, but have not found what I like locally, yet.
I am being told these are Sport Bucket seats and I am only 5'6". Do these go up and down or am I going to have to purchase an old copy of the Yellow Pages?

Those are the standard seats. They do go up and down along with fore and aft using the horizontal silver switch on the side. The vertical switch controls backrest recline. The round button is lumbar. At your height, you may actually be comfortable in the standard seats, but at 6'1" and 200 lbs, they felt too small to me which is why I upgraded to the Adaptive Sport seats. Not a lot of side bolstering on the standard seats either. If you decide on that car and then want to change the seats, those will be worth between $1,000-$1,500 depending on whether they're full leather or not.
One more thought I had for a long distance purchase. If the car is not a Porsche CPO vehicle, ask them to send you a printout of the engine DME information, which will include any engine over-revs and in what range they are. Porsche won't CPO a car with over-revs in the upper ranges, nor will they usually honor a warranty repair/replacement of a major engine failure if the car shows high range over-revs.
A PPI is really mandatory unless buying a CPO car from a Porsche dealer.

Sport Seats
Those may be what Porsche calls their sport buckets, but they're not what most people call the "Sport Seats". Sport seats have the additional upper wings for better shoulder support, the hard backs, and the larger side bolsters (like these). Technically, I think they're called Adapative Sport Seats, and if they have the extra air bladders for the side bolsters then they're the Adaptive Sport Seat Plus versions. The dealer is probably not mis-representing what those seats are called, their just the standard seats though - not very buckety or sporty.
If these are standard seats, why are they shown as a $3,125 option in the option list, on what appears to be the original list showing $18,125 worth of options, bringing total to $111,000 for the car? Which could mean maybe the owner pulled the $3,125 seats and replaced them with these standard seats as per your prior message. I would still buy car if it looks, smells, sounds and drives good in person, but this becomes a $3,000 negotiation point. How can I be sure these are different from the depicted PO3 option.
I think you figured out what happened there and those aren't sport buckets. Those are the same seats that came in my car. I looked at my window sticker and it says Driver & Passenger Manual Seats with power backrests, then in the options section there are upcharges for power seat package and full leather.
The sport buckets are a carbon shelled seat that is either 1 piece or has the hinged back, but they're not those. I only want 50% of what I save you
Happy negotiating.

Just saw the carfax. Car was driven only 10,000 miles by first owner until 2012. Then new owner drove it for 15,000 miles to get it to 25,000. Car was serviced regularly by 1st owner. 2nd owner had it serviced at 13,000 miles after owning it for 3 months, then there is no record of service from 13,000 to 25,000. My primary concern would be oil/filter changes, which i try to do every 3,000 miles on my cars. Or, is it possible he just had the oil changed by a local place, hence no record. My 2nd concern is, the second owner put on 15,000 miles in NJ, so he probably commuted with the car in most likely a lot of stop and go traffic. Should any of this cause alarm, or am I sweating this too much, which I tend to do before a big purchase, especially a used purchase like my boat, which are always issues no matter what you do..
Where in NJ was it registered? if down south, i would say - no issue. if up north or closer to NYC, I would be a little tiny bit concerned.
I had a 07 997.1S 6 speed. Now I drive a 997.2S PDK. I see you are in LI, I live in Brooklyn. I *LOVED* the 6 speed in my previous car but the PDK is so much more convenient around our neck of the woods (Think belt parkway or west side drive)
I will own a manual 911 again some day, but I will also not live in Brooklyn at that point.

With the 2nd owner putting on 15,000 miles in about a year, and it being a C4S with AWD, sounds like he may have driven it through the winter salt and sand road treatments. If you don't plan to do that too, you may want to find a more Southern car or one you can verify wasn't driven in the winter.
