Newby with many questions

I am looking for a 997.2, C4S, Automatic with less than 25K miles, of which there seem to be many. I have preferences in color (Meteor Gray and Midnight Blue) and I think I want a Cab but would not walk away from a Coupe. I would truly appreciate feed back on my thought process. Don't hold back, which if this forum is anything like a boating forum I frequent, you guys/gals won't hold back anything!

Here are some thoughts and related questions driving my decision on what type of 997 I want:

1 - I want the 997.2 for 2 reasons. 1-PDK; 2-Heard some 997.1's have or had an issue with a Bearing killing the engine. I am obviously not a mechanic.

2-I want an AWD because I figure she will handle better in the rain. I have had 2 Audi Quattros and love the way they handle in the rain with both Performance Tires and All Season. I also like the look of the wider rear of the 4.

3 - I always said when I buy a Porsche, I will only get a manual. But, when I read about the PDK, I changed my mind, especially because I will sometimes drive her to work in traffic. For the record I have owned 2 manual shift cars when I was much younger and loved them, but the PDK seems too good to be true. I use the Tiptronic in my A6, but if the PDK was anything like that, I would not want it!

4 - With respect to the S, I would like to get the extra power, but to be honest the base Carerra is plenty fast. I also like the look of the tail pipes on the S.

Sorry for the long post, but I have a lot to learn and trying to become an educated buyer. I am ready to buy now, so if anyone knows of a clean 997, please let me know.

Thanks,

Jeff

welcome.
I agree or can not dis agree with items 1-4 as some are your choices. I think it s wise to go up to a 2009 (997.2) if money will not be the issue. You should really drive a few cars and get a feel for them. Don t really need the AWD(c4) for rain. Traction is awesome already on a C2. Now if you ll be driving in snow then I d consider a C4. I did find the area you live in to be a little higher with dealer prices than down in Fla.. I had most of the same spec s you want when I was looking also. I did get a CPO warrenty car also. I did opt for an S. Has a few more upgrades other than the ponies.
PDK is nothing like tiptronic, I have driven both. The 997.2 also has the newer DFI engine, reported to be more fuel efficient and added power. Probably better re sale for you too. It should be easy to find one with less than 25K.... Will it be a daily driver or weekend toy?

Thanks for the reply. This will be my second car, but it won't sit in the garage. Knowing me, I could see myself putting 5k per year on it, maybe more. Aside from snow, I plan to drive it. I have driven a 2010 C and CS manual and a 2012 C with the PDK. Loved all of them. I was not crazy about the options and colors of the 2010's the Porsche dealer had and the 2012 is a little more money than I want to spend, although it is tempting. I didn't even want to test drive it because of price, but the dealer pushed so I can experience the PDK and he also knew I would like the car, which I did, but I have my heart set on a 997.2. He is trying to find me the car I want but not easy locally. I may need to expand my search area and either drive the car home from a distance or have it shipped. If you know of any in Florida or elsewhere, please let me know. Thanks.

you can search nation wide Porsche dealer inventory also....
If you like anything in the link I sent, Ask for Jarod and you can mention me and my car. They are flexible with their asking prices.

It's a pretty easy mod to "upgrade" base model tail pipes to the S version. You will need an adapter to make them fit as the base model tails are slightly smaller diameter. There are aftermarket tail pipe versions that fit directly without adapters too.

I will give you a short and concise answer.
1-make sure you are getting a "good buy". However waiting too long for the deal of a life time does not make sense. SO be reasonable.
2- buy as much car as you can afford (Keep in mind point #1 above), otherwise you will always say I should have.

Good luck.
Regardless what you chose you can not go wrong,a P car is awesome a 911 is sublime!
However remember a pretty wife costs some $$ in upkeep :-)

Thanks for the reply, but don't see any meteor grey or midnight blue C4S at the links. I realize I can't be too picky about the options in a used car, but for this amount of cash, I am hoping I will find the color I want!

Good to know, especially if I find a C4 I like. Thanks.

I am not looking to steal the car I want, just want it at a fair price. I own a boat and have a friend that will only buy his first boat at a steal. Three years later, he does not own a boat, which is good because you can't steal up keep either!

When I find the car I want, I will not wait and I am buying for cash, so no delays from me. Thanks for the solid advice.

Sounds like you have solid/realistic expectations.
I got mine from Paul Miller. They are reasonable and bought the car without going there and was not disappointed, overall good dealings and fair deal.
They have a grey 2011 C4S w PDK (listed as 4s, but I think it is a C2s based on pics)
Good luck

I drove a Panamera with PDK and the car could not make up its mind if it wanted to start in first or 2nd gear. I enjoyed the car for a month and half but at the end of the day, I have not driven PDK on a 911 yet so I would definitely urge to try one out. Otherwise, I like your decision making and would push you towards the coupe if you care about handling. although they designed the cabs to handle pretty well ... I guess you can not go wrong with a 911 at the end of the day! Post pics once you get one!

If I go back to these dealer websites more often, they will get a restraining order on me! I am a man possessed! But I was the same way when I was shopping for a boat. I guess it's half the fun..

I will have to drive a PDK again. I recently drove a 2012 991 with PDK and Sport Chrono, but I was so amazed just driving a Porsche and it's amazing handling and torque off the line, I wasn't paying enough attention to the PDK, but it did seem to shift and down shift on it's own pretty darn well. It sure as heck was ridiculously quicker and more intuitive than my Tiptronic on my Audi A6, but that is clearly not a good comparison..

If the Paul Miller was a 4, I would put a deposit on it today.. In the pics it is a 4S. I am going to call them any way. Maybe some of the pics are not of the actual car, but most likely it is a typo. Thanks.
