Upgrades?

Can an 07 997.1 have the PCM of a newer 997.2 installed and work with the car? Also where did they find the extra HP on the 997.2 S?

I don't think so. The .2 cars are DFI.

You can't install a different nav/radio because of the motor? I was wondering if the newer nicer PCM would be a plug and play and fit in the same space.

The 997.2 PCM 3.0+ will not retrofit to the 997.1 as plug and play. It is an entirely different system that is much more complicated and uses CAN bus to communicate with the newer ECUs.

You can go aftermarket though replacing the head unit with a more modern one with nav and rear view camera. Check the vendor classifieds at the top of this forum for some example packages.

2 part question?
Radios cannot be swapped around.
Also, the navigation in the 997.1 is DVD based and the 997.2 nav is hard drive based.

As for the HP, 997.2 (3.6 motor) vs 997.2S (3.8 motor)

the second is a direct fuel injection engine, the 997.1 is not. As the engines are different I m sure there are other things like internal engine parts (pistons etc) are also not the same in the two engines. Differetn design, differtn HP output. I don t know if you are looking for a detailed answer? I don t have those specs.

The engine in the 997.2 is entirely different than the 997.1 engine. The new engine (MA1) has about 40% fewer moving parts, for one thing...and as someone pointed out, the new ones are direct cylinder injected rather than port injected like the old ones. That alone allows finer control of the combustion process, and no doubt contributes to the HP advantage of the newer engine...
