I have an 08 and recently had TPM error lights/warnings not codes. I did the reset and eventually it went away. This has happened twice now. My guess is this means they are "going" right? Is this the case? I ask because my CPO runs out in February 2014 and I read they are covered on a forum, so if they are going, I will leave the error code and take it to the dealer to replace them. Thanks! Anyone know the cost per wheel from a dealer? $500?

 

What error code are you getting?

When my TPMS went out, the dash stop showing the PSI. I did not get any error codes. The dealer replaced them free lot charge under warranty.

Now that I'm out if warranty, I plan on using what Tire Rack sells.

 

I need to edit my thread. I meant error lights. It wouldn't read the pressure on one or more tires and it would show either just the ! in red or the little flat tire pic also. I reset the system once and it worked one time. This time I had to do it more than once and it took me shutting off the car and then coming back later to start it to disappear. I was about to make an dealer appt when I noticed after going in a store, it was gone on the drive home.

 

I heard the battery has a 6 yr life span. Since you have a 08, it is just around the corner. I have an 07 and got mine replaced under CPO a few mos ago. Make sure you get it done undet CPO cuz cost is $1200 for wheels installed by the dealer. Should you have to do it on your own $$$, there are other inexpensive options for <$500.

Mine is an 08. Champion replaced them under CPO a couple months ago-I was getting all sorts of warnings-low pressure, and the always scary, "tire flat".

 

covered under CPO. You should have ! on dashboard so dealer can scan the malfunctioning tpms . One tpms failed on mine but while dealer was diagnosing it the another malfunctioned.

Being that TPMS are installed at the same time when 1 stops working the rest are sure to follow. To find out which TPMS is not working you can go to a tire shop and have the wheels scanned to see what 1 is not transmitting.

 

Yes your TPMS system is beginning to fail...replaced all 4 of mine including installation for less than 275$.....bought them off ebay w/ Americas Tire install.....easy, I guess if its still in warranty then obviously have dealer cover it

 

If you have to replace them yourself, the best time is when you replace the tires on the rims. So when you get a car, keep that in mind and plan.. at 6-7 yrs out, when you put new tires on, have the TPMS sensors replaced as well. Around 2015, when I put new rubber on I'll have it done then. The cost will then be less than a full blown sensors-only cost, since the tires have to come off and on anyway.

 

Thanks everyone. I think I'll wait for another error and bring it into dealer while it's on..at least until February 2014. After that, I would probably buy an aftermarket part and have a shop do it for me. I miss America's Tire! They had them in CA, but not here.

 

Just had a set replaced under my CPO warranty - dealer bill, $850 (sensor were about $750).
Had another set added to aftermarket rims, $200.
Dealer mentioned that they were not covering this under CPO before, but are covering it now.

 

850$?? Geez...another reason not to have dealer do any service work unless its warranty work...the sensors cost them less than 50$ a piece...

 

Where do you buy the OEM part for $50?

 

its the batteries that fail after 5-7 years, might want to investigate just replacing the batteries, may or not be possible, i think it is possible for mercedes when i looked into it, i ended up buying the $180 set from ebay, i really dont care if they are oem or not, they come with a warranty and a lot of people use them and have never had issues.

 

Can't replace the batteries in the OEM sensors.
