ECU Flash, 2006 C2S, how to tell what it is?
ECU Flash, 2006 C2S, how to tell what it is?
ECU flash 2006 C2S, purchase advice needed!
Hello 6speedonline family ,
My. brother is about to close a deal on a 2006 C2S, 15 k miles, one owner, PPI done at local Porsche dealer, all good ....... Except the DME range report came back all blank. Dealer says that the ECU has likely been flashed, and erased any over rev data, report is all dashes/hyphens.
Car is out of warranty, no CPO, so Porsche will not be involved in any future issues. No track use evident, car is a 9.5/10.
Questions:
How difficult/expensive is it to go back to stock?
Is there any way to get any over rev info, if any?
Stock intake/exhaust, any issues with an ECU re flash?
Car is clean, documented one owner, full service records at selling dealer, should I be concerned.
Thanks for any advice or recommendations, my brother doesn't have 15 posts yet, so I am posting for him.
Steve (for brother Frank)

when you say the DME comes up blank, what exactly do you mean? The vin, Porsche#(997..) and coding date, and production # should come up. Also operating hrs and miles... Then if all ranges come up empty, 0/0.00hrs, you are good with no over rev in any range.....
If the vin ..etc doesn t come up I don t know but would find out before getting in too deep. Waiting for someone with more knowledge to respond, interesting.

Back to stock ECU program would be whatever they are getting for the flashes ($1K?).
Done off a laptop, from the ones I ve experienced. Takes mins..
If it was a flash by a rep person the ecu flash will not hurt anything. Doesn t matter exhaust etc... A flash by a hacker can damage a engine/trans....

Cerbomark, thanks for the reply. The inspecting dealer doing the PPI states that they are unable to read ANY data on theirs PIWIS system. No VIN, no specs, no SW versions and of course no DME values. They say that when the ECU is re flashed, (some, not all) SW programs will completely overwrite the vehicle data and start over.
I confirmed this with my dealer (Brumos in Jacksonville) today. The Service Director there confirmed that once this occurs, the only way they can access data is with a reflashed (if still possible based on which aftermarket reflash was installed) ECU or a new one from PCNA with its own new initial flash to mate with the car. $$$$ and uncertainty for sure.
Of course the selling dealer (non Porsche) professes ignorance and says that they have no knowledge of the reflash having occurred.
It's not my money, it is my brother's, but he knows how I feel about moving forward on this one.....

so there is no way to even see the new tune to see what they did? I remember doing these on GM vehicles and you could see the lastest values set in the new tune.
Let us know what happens.

Definitely will keep you posted.
There are alot of good used Porsches for sale and this is none of my business however that might be good info. to pass on. There is a reason that information is missing. Claiming they don't know why is not really acceptable if it were me spending.

Problem here is that you have no record of whether engine has been over revved and how badly. I am suspicious this may have been done deliberately. A good reflash should not lose this information. Imo, walk away. Quickly.
Agree wholeheartedly and so does Frank. Today he is requesting a valid and verifiable DME range report showing date, VIN, hours, and actual readings (not dashes). If that can't be done, bye bye. Too many other choices without stories. Will keep you posted.
