$2500 Transmission JOb - 28,000 miles
$2500 Transmission JOb - 28,000 miles
I just got my 2007 911 a little over a month ago, and I LOVE it. I have had some great cars over the years, but this car is my absolute favorite of all. I am actually in love with my car.
This past weekend I went out to drive it and the clutch was slipping really badly. There was no grinding noise, but driving in 2nd gears or higher gears I had no acceleration - the engine would rev but I couldnt accelerate at all. I had the car towed to the dealer and they said it was my clutch, and several parts inside the manual transmission. The bill is $2500 and I get the car back tomorrow. I am bummed because my extended warranty won't cover anything that is clutch related (they say that is a consummable item). The car only has 28,000 miles on it, and it is pristine and babied condition with all dealer performed services.
My question: is this considered normal? It has not killed my love for the call, but I am a little concerned going forward....... I know it is not a Toyota and I don't expect that lelvel of maintenance costs, but I was a little surprised and disappointed to be sinking $2500 in to a manual transmission repair at 28K miles.
Thanks.

A clutch doesn't have a set number of hours it works until it dies, clutches can live for 2000 miles or 200000 miles, depending how the car is driven, the last owner probably wasn't very skilled at driving a manual. Drive the car properly and you will likely never need to replace it again.
Don't worry, don't stress, just enjoy your car, life is too short.

You are in for a rude awakening if you think a 2500 dollar bill is a bad day. Granted on a stock vehicle you shouldn't see these as often as lets say a modded Turbo.
I suggest you find a quality Indy Shop instead of using the dealership to start, you will save time and money. LOTS OF MONEY…..
One Example, they wanted 250 dollars for a throttle body sensor at the dealership. I got it online, same manufacturer and part number for 25 dollars direct from the manufacturer. I also got a throttle body for 300 dollars, the dealership wanted 1300.
Please go to an indy shop…….

If you just got the car chances are the last owner knew this was coming and got out of it.

It's not normal. You just got unlucky to buy the car of someone that abused the clutch. Has it spent any time on the track? Six year old car with 28k or just 4,666 miles per year. Hmm

A low miles car requiring a new clutch means the previous driver doesn't know how to drive a manual car.
Classic example that "low miles" doesn't equate to a pristine, properly driven car.
