Fan & Temp Button Repair

Brought car to Porsche Scottsdale today for an oil change and asked about repairing the crappy look of my fan and temp buttons. To my surprise they have a contractor who comes in to do this. He uses a template and repaints then seals them. Looks like brand new, couldn't be happier. BTW - best dealer hands down, 7 star service all the time!

My god I need his number. That has been driving me crazy! I have been thinking that it must be simple enough to tape on a template and spray those switches. Perhaps he knows someone here that can do the same. Do you have his info?

Sorry I don't know exactly who did it, maybe call Porsche Scottsdale Service and ask for his contact info. Don't see why they would not give it to you.

sixgun, do you know who your service advisor at the dealer was? I called and the one I got in touch with was not familiar with the service or person that was capable of doing the work. They asked for your name to look it up...

Thanks

What good info I can find I will inform everyone on this thread. I was already considering trying this on my own, now at least if he cant recommend someone in the area, I am hoping that he will detail a little of his process with me since I live way to far to have him do it. I would gladly pay for the work to be done. Its ridiculous that you cant replace those switches individually.

For all to know, one solution is to remove the switched and send them out to www.stickynomore.com

Looking at the photos there, they do some pretty solid work that looks very OEM when finished. Looking into more details and perhaps a DIY so stay tuned

I recently fixed it myself as I couldn't stand the peeling rocker switches....

I'm very happy with the result. Even though I knew I couldn't redo the "Temp" and Fan icon, it was still way better than the peeling looking. I'm very happy with the result.

I like the idea of a dude that rolls up & does them on site in one day. I think I'd pay the premium for that as well. I've seen the SNM site, and read a few DIY's on here ( https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...553&styleid=24 ) and rennlist, and quickly lost interest. BTW my buttons are much worse, pretty much all white- looks like the car was owned by a raccoon before I bought it! Haha

Comparatively, mine aren't bad. But it still drives me crazy. A little sanding and black spray would be easy. I like the idea of having the stock icons still in play.

simoncpw, great job. I did something similar with an acrylic black pen, results were good but its peeling again. How did you work it around? any step by step pics?

Here's the info that I followed.

My only other advices are:
1) when removing the board from the faceplate (pic 2), take note on how it is assembled. Other wise you might not put them back together correctly if you have not dealt with a LCD display before

2) I didn't need to use a knife to scrape off the rubber coating. Just rub hard with alcohol and micro fibre cloth

3) take note of the left & right switch. they don't look very obvious which side they are, I put the first one on the wrong side and nearly damaged the switch.

Good luck

Please pm me or post the price of the repair. Want to see how much this nuisance is going to cost me.

I have an extra set of re done toggles with the emblems on them. I had to buy the control unit remove them and send them in for refinishing so they are a lil pricy but it's nice to have the stock factory look back. I may also have a set that need to be refinished to make the swap easier.
