New 997 owner with PSE Question

I've just taken delivery of a '09 997.2 a couple weeks ago, and frankly I am confused on what exhaust I have…It's a C4S so from research, I know that come with the solenoid controlled flaps one side of each outlet. However what confuses me is that I have the PSE button on the dash next to my Sport and PASM buttons. The original build sheet has Sport Chrono Plus & PASM but not the PSE.

I originally thought that the PSE was added later because it was a 2009 and the option didn't seem to be available early on. I looked under the car and my exhaust does not look like the first photo on this page

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...it-doable.html

It looks like the second photo describing the stock S exhaust. If that's the case, why do I have the PSE (binocular) button?

Congrats on your new to you 997. Sounds like PO had PSE added afterwards but then also removed it before selling/trading in.

In any event, I took pic from post #12 in thread you linked and circled the PSE valves you should look for under yours. If not there, then it was taken back to stock exhaust for one reason or another.

Good luck

Thank you sir! I believe I may have confused myself, the picture I posted above and the one you circled seems to be the 997.1 design (maybe?), I'm assuming that's what the blue car is.

Sharkwerks shows this as a picture of the 997.2 3 piece design PSE which is what mine looks like.

ETA: Seems the 997.2 has the same center section muffler regardless of if you have the PSE or not. I guess this was a change on the DFI engine.

Indeed AND you took me down w/ you!

You tried to cross ref a 991 w/ a 997(.2)... I have a .1 so I'm not as familiar w/ the .2 underside but it did seem a little too different. At least that is my excuse

Anyhow, sounds you are content now.. therefore I am as well.

Congrats again on your new ride

Yep, I'm good at that. Didn't even realize I was looking at .1 info until after I posted.

Thanks for the congrats, it's been awhile since I had a P-Car and in the mean time had several BMW's including an M3, and an Audi S5, but I'm very happy to be back in Porsche. Best car of them all in my opinion.

Those vacuum plungers/actuators are actually ON the SIDE mufflers for the 997.2 PSE, if you look around the side mufflers they're visible from below. Are you sure you have the PSE button and you're not looking at the SHOCK button? They do look a little similar if you're new to the car...sort of like porsche using the PSM and PASM acronyms that mean completely different things.

I found the actuator valves last night. From underneath I can see one valve on each side near the outside tailpipe exit. I'm positive I have the PSE button, I know what they look like, this is my third P-Car, but screwed up when I didn't realize the differences on the .2 cars.

My last 911 was a 993 so I'm learning as I go. How exactly does the PSE work on the 997.2's? I only see one valve on each side so I can't determine what exactly it's bypassing, I'm assuming there is some sort of internal valving inside the side mufflers?

Mine is not hooked up...it's just open/loud all the time. Mine was added aftermarket and I bought it that way. I think it just bypasses some of the exhaust around the mufflers and straight out. I also have the Fabspeed X pipe which replaces the center muffler...the whole package sounds awesome! If you search around you can find some threads about how to unplug the blue connector in the engine bay to just leave it open all the time...if you're interested in that. I don't know if you can turn yours on and off with the button at will...or if it's still rpm sensitive?

I'm thinking about the Fabspeed as well. Planning on calling up there and trying to understand why there design doesn't lose power but the AWE design did. I do see a bit of difference in the pictures surrounding the cross over point so I'd like to see what they say. I want a bit louder exhaust with more of the older exotic sound… The 997 DFI engine is a bit anemic in that department.

I was able to compare both the AWE crossover (not the X version) and the Fabspeed X since I stumbled into both in the used market at the same time. In case the info helps, I described some of my observations when I sold the AWE and kept the Fabspeed at http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...crossover.html

It's not clear to me if you have the PDK or not. If you do, you'll want to read the above to understand a side effect of the choice of crossover vs X-pipe.

I read your comparison last night, it was very helpful. I have the MT so no issues with the PDK.
