Finally got around to cleaning the PCM *****

I noticed my PCM volume and option ***** getting grosser over time. I just popped them off, rubbed of the old "rubberized" coating that was breaking down, and cleaned them up with soap and water. The stickiness is gone and the paint for the white markings stayed looking just fine. I can't believe I let those go for so long....

Old news, but those of us with older models now are starting to see this more and more. The ***** just pop straight off. No big fuss at all.

My car is a 997.1. The "rubberized" coating was melting to the touch. It was really sticky and I could scratch and move it like clear cake icing with my finger nail. I was stuck in traffic and tried to pull of the **** and it comes straight off. It is held on by friction to the shaft. When I got home I cleaned them up. Super easy to clean and they look like new now.

ACRB is infamous around these parts
It would be great if there was a way to get that same rubberized coating off the center console without removing the unit. If it’s just black plastic underneath, IMO it would look better than that sticky flat black paint. One would think that there would be a chemical remover that would lift it off.
