AC went Kaput

so driving with full ac on yesterday in the 90 deg heat, and all of sudden the car makes a strange noise and sounds like a tractor, spin it back to the NB Porsche, AC is not cooling anymore! Have an appointment for tomorrow.

Glad this happened after my 1600 mile road trip -> Orange County, Las Vegas, Kolob Canyon, Zion, Sedona, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Hoover Dam, LV and back to OC.

Any body had to fix there AC and what what was the $ damage, is it a DIY?

I had this problem and it was fixed under warranty on my 2012 997. Mine was just not blowing cold air.

Honestly I don't know, I had someone take the car in and I got busy and never asked. Now I'm curious and will call the dealer and ask.

Mine had the o-rings replaced under warranty whn it stopped blowing cold air. However, mine did not make a tractor sound.

3 yrs later, still all good.

Let us know what the damages$$. GL!

Just got a call back - the compressor blew up, expected cost $3,000.00 parts and labor if it didn't blow lines and all - yup and the car is out of warranty - moth$$$$$$er

time to trade up I think....

Try to find the compressor cheaper somewhere else. Look online in several Porsche parts websites. Good luck and keep us posted.

Did a quick search and Pelican Parts has an OEM compressor for $482.

rockauto.com has them for under $300, not sure if its OEM though. If you are out of warranty I'd go this route.

Update - had to wait 2 months to get the AC Compressor none in North America. Thanks to Suncoast got a good price. And then Porsche North America helped by honoring my old expired coupon thanks to Newport Porsche folks…can't thank enough the boys at NB Porsche (Dan & Dennis)!

Back on the road….top down turkey day!
