997.1 vs 997.2
997.1 vs 997.2
Hi: I know this has been discussed, but going to ask again. With a budget of south of 60k, would you buy a nice low mileage 997.1 or wait til the prices of the 2009 997.2's start to enter my budget range? Want an S or 4S with sport chrono, so 997.2's aren't there yet.
Your thoughts appreciated.

I think you can get into a high mileage 997.2 for less than 60k.
It all depends on how important certain options are to you and what your timeframe is. If you want automatic, then I guess it's worth it to wait for a .2 in your price range for the PDK. For me, the .1 is not an option because I want the additional power, upgraded PCM, DFI, and the 4S with the upgraded tail lamps with red reflector across the back. If the .2 didn't exist, I'd have no problem with a .1. Still a great car by any measure.

I was in a similar situation. I was looking at 997.1's and 997.2's. I went with the 997.2 because it was still under warranty and had the PCM that I wanted. Keep sales tax in mind. The taxes and fees for me (in CA) added 10k to the price :-(
Thanks, so what is the difference between ask price and actual sales price? Like in houses, it is between 5 and 10%...Ask, 400k sell 360 to 380. I have found private parties less willing to negotiate, you too?
I think it really depends on what part of the country you are in. When I saw the post above by someone who paid 68k for a 997.1 I thought to myself that it seemed a bit high for a 997.1 and more into the 997.2 territory. But then I saw he was in the east coast so Porsche prices might be different over there. I also saw that you mention if someone is selling their house for 400k, then they will get 360-380k. Here in the Bay Area (CA) whatever the seller is asking for their house it will usually sell for 10-20% over asking due to bidding wars. (Even all cash offers at full asking price get rejected here)
So it really depends on where you are located but always try to negotiate as much as you can :-)

Yeah I would say to look at Kbb, Craigslist, autotrader, etc and unofficially aggregate the data to get a window of what you feel is acceptable to pay for a certain car with certain specs, based on market comps. That being said, if your budget is 60k max including taxes/fees, then I think a 997.1 might be your best choice. Again, I'm not sure what what the local comps or the tax rate is for you.
That was a turbo 997.1, right?
I would say 997.2 (obviously a fan myself) I actually really like the 997.1 a lot but the tech upgrades and engine power increase is really nice and what I wanted. I am not sure what can be had for 60k but as others have said autotrader, cars.com etc will be the best place to go to determine market prices. Get the newest you can afford in my opinion. Good luck!

OP - buy the car that has the options you want in the colors you want. If you find it, ignore the fact that it's a 997.1/2. UNLESS, that is, you want PDK. If you are searching for a manual, definitely don't shy away from a 997.1.
I paid far less for my .1S and it has bluetooth, ipod, XM (all wired in like stock) and is at least as powerful as a .2S. It just depends on the actual car and your situation.

Also depends on what high mileage means to you. I am getting an 09 cabriolet s with a ton of options (including sport chronos and limited slip) for 58k. Has 37k miles and includes CPO till next year
