I traded my 911 for a BMW M5
The M5 is a new 2014 and I got a real blowout lease deal. Frankly the manual transmission was a pita in traffic. I paid $70k for the 2012 997 8 months ago and they gave me $66k for it, so only $500 a month. I'd say that was great but they really wanted to move the M5, its MSRP was $124k with virtually every option. I'd hate to own the M5 with all that gingerbread. The deal I got is $0 drive off and $1250 per month for 35 months for a 36 month 10k miles per year lease. My M5 has the comp package so 575 hp, it's quick.

trade in a 911 for BMW??? that was a terrible idea
anyway, I really love the new M5 look, it has a nice stance and high HP. I was thinking about trade in my C63 for a slightly used 2013 M5 but I also love my C63 sedan and my forever keeper 997.1 Turbo.
Can you post some update info about handling and driving characteristics of the M5 in a few weeks. Thanks

i am yet to drive a newer gen m5. will have to soon
$1250 on a lease is a little too rich for my blood, always feels good to buy used and have some collateral in the vehicle
positives are that you can drive it hard and know its going back one day rather than being a headache when the warranty expires!

Congrats! I like the look of the M5 but its a bit heavy for my taste (I think 4,200+ lbs)
With that said, super low mileage M5's are pretty inexpensive relative to their original sticker price.
This one looks like a sweet deal: $82K with only 5K miles http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/4822069450.html

Mark- you shouldn't provide me the link, now I can't ignore this car anymore. Wife gonna kill me if she found out I bought two cars in 2 weeks
May be next year and a few more miles, I can get M5 for low $70s

Interesting choice, they are such different cars. The M5 is like driving a huge, tank like rocket ship. They must also get horrible mileage. I guess it is figured into the lease, but the value of an m5 drops like a rock. In the lease you're lookimg at $45k over 3 years.
An astounding comparison, in nearly a year, you hardly lost anything on the 997! If that was the trade price, if you got a tax benefit, the value was nearly the same! (Of course no tax benefit on a trade in versus a lease).
I like the new m4 myself. Might own one at some point after someone else takes the depreciation hit.

The residual on the lease was an astonishing 60% for 10k miles a year. The residual on a 2015 would have been 57% for 36 month 10k miles which is nuts. The $1250 includes the tax. The car has two M modes which are programmable. The M settings completely change the way the car handles. I'll have to wait for the 1200 mile break in, take it in for an oil change, then do some experimenting and come back.

I can't wait to hear from your feedback, my last M6 with SMG tranny was awesome, except the SMG (it was the worse tranny ever for a hypersport car. But the new double clutch might be interesting, please compare BMW vs. PDK

Still miss my e39 M5 - should not have sold it. The e60 was not for me - I felt BMW had lost their way lately at making driver's cars - I drove them for years and then just couldn't find an e39 replacement in the line - and I ended up in a 911.
I've never driven the F10 though - Congrats - that sounds like a fairly good lease deal as long as you don't want to buy it at the end - could be a righteous residual.

MSRP was $124,385, sales price $107,409, cap cost $108,134 adding $725 lease fee. Money factor .0013 ( 3.12% ). Residual 60% or $74,631. Depreciation $930.64, Interest $237.59, Tax $81.79, Lease Payment $1250.02. They paid ALL the drive off which would have been $1967.72 at this BMW dealer because they have a $499 dealer fee. Also, I get $1,000 from the BMW car club. One way to evaluate a lease is to calculate your total cost and divide by MSRP. 40% is excellent. This lease is 34.37%. ( $1250.02*35 minus $1000 = $42,750.70 / $124,385 = .3437 ).
