Just want to give a shout out to Sam at EVOMs for his customer service he provided me with the purchase of the Stage 4 flash for my 997.


I have a 06 4S 3.8L, with some mods to the motor. The mods are an IPD "competition" plenum, 82mm throttle body, Fab Speed headers, 200 cell cats, and air intake system.


After I installed these mods the car performed well, but less then what I had expected. After months of reading different flashes that 6speeders have done to their cars, I decided to go with EVOMS. I called Sam and explained to him what I was looking for, and he suggested the Stage 4 flash.


I uploaded it to the car yesterday, and took her for a test drive. Boy, was I surprised. The lag I felt from 2nd to 3rd gear and 3rd to 4th gear was gone. The car responded with a quickness that I had been looking for. Then I put the car into sport mode, and noticed a quicker response in those gears. I am very pleased with this flash they made for my car. So, again, a big thanks to Sam and EVOMS.

The stock tune can compensate ok with an just intake or mufflers because they affect the engine's performance pretty much the same across the board. Doing headers, cats, and the intake plenum make a really big difference in air flow on these engines, and the effect is not even across the rev band. As such, you'll get major dips and peaks in the powerband where the stock tune just doesn't match the characteristics of the engine any longer, swinging rich or lean and with timing that is all over the place. This results in poor throttle response, poor power, and notably two dips/hesitations around 2000-2500rpm and again around 4000rpm.

We developed a tune specifically for these bolt-ons that brings everything in to line, resulting in much better response and power, with a smooth powerband like there is supposed to be. Both 3.6L and 3.8L cars respond extremely positively, and make excellent power with the tune and hardware in place. The tune can be installed with our TUNEit cable, so the ECU does not need to be removed and you can install it yourself using a laptop.

Is this a custom tune or basically off the shelf tune? I am adding the same mods in the spring and want to upgrade to the EVOMS software...

Custom tune to my car. I asked for a couple different things that I wanted. I send them the data from my stock ECU, and they sent me back the tuned software. I change it back to stock anytime I want.

 

I like the idea.

+++++1 for Sam at EVOMS. Sam, wish you were still up north. I will not go to your old shop now that your gone! You were the glue that held that entire business together!. OP,,, I have similar mods as you, plus pulley, and am not overly satisfied with my current non Evoms tune. Had you always been stock prior to these mods?

 

We based jlm's file on a tune we've used many times over the years designed for cars running the engine mods he is using--intake, IPD Plenum+82mm Throttle Body, Mufflers, Sport Cats/X-Pipe, and Headers, but then did some custom adjustments based on his expected usage and specific requests. For example, he autocrosses the car and requested aggressive low-end throttle mapping to help with response, but not so aggressive that he loses resolution in the throttle control. This 'Stage 4' tune works very well on this particular set of hardware, but if any tweaks were needed to make things perfect on his car, we would make them and they could be installed on the car using the TUNEit cable.

Yes, with the TUNEit cable it is easy to install our software anywhere in the world without needing to ship your ECU to us or bringing your car to one of our flashing dealers. Getting you setup can be done over the phone or via email.
