spark plugs+coils ..or not coils

06C4 31K, runs great..car is 9 years old, original plugs..
Indy wants $450 parts/labor for plugs...another $450 for coils..
im thinking just plugs(unless coils look bad).
thinking 9 years on original plugs, they might be getting a little sticky..
what say Ye..i do not want to DIY this one

do it yourself. You can do both for less than that. Wasn't as bad as i thought. just took a little time. Best a 2 man job with minimal profanity.

I think you can purchase coils for $40s each.

I did both at 36K on my 06 C2S. You can definitely get the coil packs cheaper then that! Your Indy shop is very expensive!

dealership wanted $1500.00 for plugs only. I asked what all they planned to do for that price. Said they would check all filters. that isn't robbery, that's rape. Buddy and I changed all filters, cleaned MAF, changed plugs and coils all for less than $500.00. Wasn't thinking or we would have changed serpentine belt while we had the air box off. Took us about 5 hours but could probably do it in 3 now.

Why replace the coils unless you've had problems? Poesche does not even recommend replacement at 40k.

Mine were done at 38k mile, 8 yrs old car. Prior to the coil/plug change car ran perfect. Some coils shown some hairline cracks so might as well, glad that I did because She ran like new. Cost was around $600.00, work done by Porsche AD.

Why not? they are cheap, and as long as you are in there! Changing plugs isn't a bad job but not something I want to do every day.

OEMs aren't that cheap? At least thru Pelican unless you purchase like BERU

Fwiw: At 5 years and about 30K miles I replaced plugs. Left coils in as they
looked fine. 5 years later I am still on original coils but am beginning to experience moisture related misfires. My suggestion, do coils every other plug change if you use the 5 or 6 year criteria for the latter.

Ah...guys! Coils need to be removed to do plugs.... so, at the price of 4 or 5 tanks of gas, why the hell wouldn't you replace the 8 year old coils?
And, I don't care how few miles you have on them...replace the damn things.
Baseline the thing. Know and understand you have all new components on your car. regardless of miles...or ..."gee, they "look" alright".

Replace...replace...replace...period.

Doing the plugs and coils is a pretty simple DIY. Take a look at the tech article here to see if you may want to tackle this job yourself. Coils can be found here and plugs can be found here. Can compare what pricing would be and see if it's worth your time and effort.
