Strange Dash bubbling

Guys - I am on my second 997 and I had the same issue in both?

See the image - has anybody else experienced this?

I would also suspect some chemical interaction. It's possible you parked near some glass or window that had a magnifying effect with the Sun.

Try to figure out what you are doing that no one else in the P community is doing.

It's happened twice for you, yet I don't recall anyone else reporting this problem. That's not to say it isn't happening to others, just that those that do post here are not seeing this type of damage. So, it's likely something unique to you. Did you remove some registration stickers on the inside of the window right there? What cleaning product/chemical did you use? What do you clean the inside of your windows with? Other interior cleaning supplies? Do you park in the sun? Do you drive with anything stored in that spot (bad idea, but just asking)?

strange this is it isn't me - saw it on my 1st car a few weeks after buying it.

noticed it on my new car whilst inspecting it prior to buying!!! I have put any chemicals on it yet!

I agree what's weird is that in both cases it looked round - like something underneath didn't take the paint for long term.

if its only me i will put it down to coincidence

I bought my 997.2 used and it had a similar existing problem on both the center console and the area around the power window controls on the driver side. The console indicated to me that it wasn't sun related, I put it down to chemical - possible perfume or hand lotion as the previous owner was female.

I just remembered that with a previous non-porsche I inflicted similar damage with an air freshener or similar, the freshener was placed on the surface on a hot day, the fumes were enough to crinkle the finish.

Astronomical odds of this being coincidental. I've seen air fresheners damage vinyl or plastic like that...or do you loan your cars to someone who has a bobble-head Jesus? Strange. When you figure it out, post it.

When I bought my car used, the dealer put a sticker on the inside of the windshield. I think this happened when they tried to remove the sticker with liquid chemical.

I have a somewhat similar spot on my dashboard. I believe there was an inspection sticker or something on the glass above, that a chemical might have been used to remove said sticker, and it reacted with the rubber on the dashboard panel.

Is it possible that maybe one of those suction cup Garmins sat there in the heat causing this??? Just a thought.
