wing mirror woes

Guys - my issue get worse and more confusing..

my passenger side rearview mirror - it will move left ans right but not up or down.

today I had it in a long tunnel and the mirrors dimmed - driver side and internal rearview - the passenger side is also not dimming.

2 issues like this make me think electrical?

is there a fuse for just these items - I doubt it.

I had the mirror off a week ago and saw nothing wrong with it?

any ideas?

Your owner's manual should have a chart for the fuse panel. A blown fuse should cause everything to quit at once, not in stages as you have described. Maybe multiple fuses are at fault (hopefully, not). I don't know the setup Porsche uses but many outside electric mirrors use 2 servo motors to move the mirrors (1 for up and down, the other for left and right). you probably need to gain access to the mirror motor(s) and start checking connections and electrical power from there back to the switch. Good luck.

yeah - I started doing that - but if both the motor AND the dimming is not working, i was wondering if there was a fuse - if not i guess i have a short or something.

will try with a voltmeter to make check if power is arriving....

plus I might swap the right components into the left mirror to check they aren't broken

i just double checked by swapping the components onto the other side - both work perfectly....

anybody know if the cables going into the Wing mirrors are just part of the loom or are they connected into the car somewhere?

this is my last hope to try a connector inside the car before i have to go to the dealer.....

problem is my local dealer currently has a month lead-time for an appointment.

Maybe the connection at the motor? Try putting some dilectric grease on the motor connection to see if that helps. I had to do that with my license plate light connectors because even though they were connected the connection was intermittentent from the shaking and kept blowing bulbs.

As you swapped parts (I assume the passenger side mirror motors and dimming tested good on the drivers side) -this appears to be a wiring issue to the mirror location. Maybe the wiring got pinched in the pivot, a rodent ate through it, or a grounding connection for that isn't grounding right (thus no return for all of the parts in the mirror).

Fuse is highly unlikely as a fuse is a pretty fail-proof component and only blows if a part has failed that overloads the circuit (or you fry the fuse in some way by applying bad power) - and in that case the components should not work on the other side without blowing that fuse (assuming they are not all on the same fuse).
