Duck Tail in SoCal
Just to get us in the ballpark, could you tell us what your total cost was for everything; materials, prep, paint, etc, etc? That'll give a few of us a goal to shoot for. Thanks!!
The paint shop is owned by an old time neighbor of mine.....enough said.
However, if you want a good budget number, $2K - $2.25K.
The primer service is worth every penny ~$160 from Getty. The part will NOT be ready to paint but they put in about 6 hours in prep work that any body shop can't touch for that price. It is ready to install for a fit check as no two cars are alike...there is always something to do.
Also beware that the feed through holes needed for the wire harness are NOT in the lid, the body shop needs to add them or use my route where it is on the underside of the lid held in place with epoxied on harness clamps...you do need to drill one 15mm hole to route the piece of the harness to the third brake light in the tail.
I'll fully document the results to help those out....
The paint service will vary greatly depending on where you take it. When I shopped around I had one shop quote me $1500 to do the work! Then I went to the local body shop that services the lamborghini and ferrari dealers here in town. He charged me $500. I think the lowest quote I got was like $350, but I wanted to make sure it was done right.
Assuming you don't get any hookups or deals you're looking at a budget of $2300-$2500 all in for the conversion.
IMO it's money well spent if you have the budget.
[QUOTE=megachimp;4495107]The wing is probably setting you back $2k. That would include primer service and wiring harness.

If you pay retail the tail from Getty including primer and harness is $1700 plus tax and shipping. I would count on paying $500 for paint and install. Just mention PCA, 6 Speed, or Rennlist to Getty and I'll bet you will save $200.

A couple more shots pre paint.
Note the air inlet is part of the tail...no need to transfer the OEM part.
Also the inside is now painted black.

Absolutely amazed at the outcome...still need to install the emblems.
Going with the "PORSCHE" in matte black over "911" in matte black and red "S".
Still need to figure out the "PORSCHE" spacing....
