Ran ran is infamous around these parts
Battery dead

So after about a week of not driving I turn the key and get the infamous click click click 😣
So I check the voltage and its around 10
So I jump the car and while running test again and it's at 14
Drive the car for 1/2 hour park on a hill before turning off and wait about ten mins before trying and failing to have the car start on its own 😤

Question is the alternator good since while car is idling voltage is right and just a dead batt
Or could alt still be the problem?

Do I just buy a battery and find out?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated
Thanks

1/2 hour of driving is not going to charge a dead battery. You need to put on a charger and get it fully charged. Sounds like alternator is operating fine. Just a dead battery. You should have a trickle charge on the battery for continuous days without running car.

That solves that. You may have to buy a new battery though depending on how old your current one is. It may not hold a new charge.

Time will tell you that.

I bought a gel battery from auto zone that starts the car quicker than my two previous batteries.

Just get the number off of it and go to local auto store. I don't remember what brand I have in mine. Changed mine once since ownership.

Piece of mind to get a new one.

A good battery should maintain little over 12V.
14V while running = good alternator, charging system.
If a battery failed maintain 12V after 3 days of slow charging (2A/10A), replaced it.

Hot weather kills battery faster than cold, we replaced our battery every 2-3 yrs in Texas.

agree hot weather kills battery faster, but every 2-3 yrs? What battery are you using? I have interstate in my 996 & it lasted longer than 2-3yrs. More then double. The interstate in my 997 is still kicking strong.

Until couple months ago 4 of the 5 vehicles we owned have Walmart brand battery same for the 911, its date is 10/12, has to trickle charged on few last outings don't think it will make through the summer, it's already 100* (HI) this week.

2-3 yrs is bit exaggerate, however have not seen one last 4 yrs.

My car is 07 and it's the second battery for the car. Replaced 3 years ago. They last. But trickle is key. Not my DD so I'm always aware of that.

Had not driven the car for 5 days and went to start and it was a bit low. Put back on charger. Good as new.

Gel battery installed and back to normal
I've had the car for 3 years now and who knows if the dealer changed it before I bought it
Saved $120 buying from auto zone not the dealer
Thx for all the input
