Are my struts bad?

Lately my front end bounced on curvy road, once inspected they both has rusty powder as seen in pictures, what is it?. If bad I am will go with B16 Damptronic, should I do the B16 and RSS Stage 2 all at same time or can they be staged? front end alignment twice?

Thank.

scottiemac is infamous around these parts
It looks like the rubber bump stops at the top of the shock are starting to disintegrate. They are a funny texture of rubber and are the colour that shows in the picture.

How many miles on them? What happens when you try to bounce each corner of the car up and down? Does pressing the Sport button still stiffen them?

I have RSS stage 2 and Damptronics, along with adj sway bars and drop links, monoball top mounts, and the TPC DSC module, andcsm very happy with the overall setup. You might be able to achieve what you're going for with just the Damptronics and DSC module; if not though, you can always add the other stuff later.

39K miles, can't bounce the corner w/o denting the fender , suspension feel stiffen with sport mode on.

I have read many of your post about B16 PSS10 setup and would like head down that route but B16 + RSS Stage 2 at once is tad expensive.

Definitely go with the PSS10 setup.

Thank.

The B16 damptronics is the one you want for compatibility with PASM. I think the PSS9 and PSS10 setups are on ly manually adjustable with ***** on the shocks themselves. The B16s with a DSC box will probably get you 85-90% of the
way there. I'd start there and see if you need the RSS additions afterwards.

I think there were some B16s for sale in the Marketplace recently either here or on Rennlist. You can an also send them back to Bilstein for inspection, refurb,, and recalibration for a pretty reasonable cost.

I am intrigued to know how do the bump stops "wear out" faster than the dampers .... I wonder if lower/shorter Eibach springs contributed to it....

My thought too...but did take a while. All were ok when bought the car in 2013.

I would think if you're constantly hitting the bump stops (enough to cause that kind of destruction), you'd certainly feel it when it happened. Although, it's also possible that the foam rubber they're made of just deteriorated over time and that hitting them just every so often could cause the brittle foam to break apart like you see in the picutures. In either case, the Damptronics are a very nice upgrade to stock PASM.

I think so too...the indy shop that doing the the B16 Damptronic installation suggest to raise up the front a little, said car sat too low right now with springs.

Dallas roads are pretty bad...love how the German built their highways, had great driving experience there.

If you get the B16's, don't forget about the TPC DSC. It'll transform your suspension.
