Garage door opener help

Heyas,

While I'm not the swiftest guy around I usually am able to follow simple directions... but to no avail with setting the remote control buttons on my 997S.

Anyone else have problems setting their garage door opener? I hate having to lug around the original unit on my sun visor. The only thing that may be a problem is the age of my garage opener? Its a Lift-Master Professional, model 1000SDR, and date is 1993.

It took me a few days to finally figure out what I was doing wrong. I don't remember exactly what the situation was. But I remember it wouldn't program by just putting the remote control near the sensor and holding the buttons. I had to do use the other method it explained. My problem was (if I remember correctly) that you had to do both steps right after each other. I read over it a couple times, and still didn't think it stated that real clearly. But anyway, I guess my point is follow the directions to a T, and read them carefully. If you do that it should work. Good luck.

mine worked pretty quickly once i figured you had to first program the button from the passenger side turn/fog light, than progrm the button's rolling code.... like red blur said follow the instructions to a T.. took me 30 mins to finally get it sorted

Thanks all for the info... finally got it working, but I got it working by reading the directions here:

http://www.homelink.com/home/global.taf

Then go to the training page, it has a lot of info and lets you pick your make/model/year of your car.

I see you got it working but just a note for others who might read this forum. I don't think you need to be right off the front of the car with the transmitter. One quick way to link it is to use the button on your garage wall and not the handheld transmitter. I messed around for an hour before I tried it and it worked on the first try.

Basically: Pull car in garage, push and hold the button inside the car until it blinks, push button on wall opener.

Actually my problem was I was reading the wrong instructions Turns out my garage door opener uses the rotating codes so I needed to setup the garage unit to "autolearn" and follow the section in the manual describing that type.

Old thread, but maybe it can help others. I got mine working after being confused at first. I didn't think I had the programmable type, but it turns out that I do - and I needed to follow the second set of directions.
The 'new to me' 997 can now trigger both garage doors - cool!

Actually, there are some brands of garage door opener than cannot be programmed into the Porsche system. My right opener door (LiftMaster) works fine (which is the side I park on), whereas the left door opener (a replacement) cannot be programmed into my 997.

What's makes the replacement garage door opener incompatible with the Homelink system?

The ones with rolling codes require an extra step...I cannot imagine why it wouldn't work.

I'm thinking you can't program two different garrage door openers. I tried to program my mother's (which is a "blue" button Sears) after mine (which is a "black" button Sears) and couldn't do it.

I'm sorry, but for that kind of money they should send a tech home with you to make all the necessary adjustments to the car... Make the door locks audible if you want it that way, program the GD garage door opener for you, etc....
please add to the list.......

There are so many little tweaks you can make to the car if you are made aware...

Bookmarking this for later. I haven't been able to figure out how to program mine. Now I don't feel so stupid.

I am stuck with mine...I can't get the little light to come on for nothing...held I and III simultaneously for 20+ seconds several times, with ignition on, off, with lights on, off...nothing.

I don't know if there is a fuse for this fuction but I searched on the fuse box legend and nothing points in that direction.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
